I saw on "Breaking Amish" that one of the girls had her teeth removed at a young age and they were replaced with dentures made by an Amish man that ripped her gums and hurt her for many years. What other such practices are you implying WayneinMaine? New Age and folk remedies are bad enough, just how occultic does it get?

I've never seen "Breaking Amish", I can't imagine an Amishman practicing dentistry, let alone making dentures (I knew a Dentist who practices among the Amish). So I'm certainly not referring to something on "reality" TV!

Herbaism and superstitious cures, kenesiology, phrenology, and the like.

How are people who are unable to digest herbs, particularly folks with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, tolerate such practices? I believe "kenesiology" is actually "kinesiology" or the science of dealing with movement in the body or conditioning through physical rehabilitation. Phrenology deals with the brain as a way of understanding character and conduct in a person. It doesn't fall under medicine since it has a lot to do with feeling lumps on an individual's head to determine personality and temperment. You are right to call these practices superstitious. If I were Amish I would have made it a point to further my education past the eighth grade and flee primitive medicine as quickly as possible. I would demand that everyone have the privilege of reading the Bible, regardless of the mind set that the older German elders were the only men with the means to interpret. English Bibles have been around for centuries. People's lives are not placed on this earth to be controlled by other individuals. Those that do should be held accountable, as were the Germans of WWII. It's unexceptable.

If you were Amish you probably would not have been concerned about getting an education beyond the 8'th grade. And I don't know where you get your idea about "older German Elders". But I don't watch TV.

"Breaking Amish" is not real. Amish go to regular doctors, in fact that probably go to better doctors than you do since their communities ensure that every member is able to receive medical treatment for anything that may occur, and without going into debt (even if it ranges into tens of thousands of dollars for treatment).

do a little more (okay, a lot more) research.... into what the drug lords did since they started (i.e. always), and how they got control of , well, too much.... or simply, seek Yhwh, God, the Creator, by grace in Jesus Christ, for truth. once you know the truth, you will almost never need (Yhwh willing) man made distractions, posins, or hurtful concoctions.
What are the Anabaptists stand concerning medications? I'm not aware of them seeing doctors for things like high blood pressure, pain issues, thyroid trouble, bipolar medications. How are issues like these handled when the patient requires proper care?

I know for a fact in my area of Ontario Canada (very high Mennonite/Amish populations) that conservative and Amish people do use mainstream, modern health care. When I was in the hospital for severe depression 4 years ago, my room mate was an Amish woman. She was getting quite in-depth treatment including shock treatment, which is only used in very severe cases of mental illness. It looks like they may be even more willing to get help for mental illness that anyone else! (I'm a Mennonite by choice)
