Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I Know That Most (if Not All) Of These Have Already Been Listed, But I'll List Them Again.

1. John Calvin
2. Martin Luther
3. Hugh Latimer
4. Nicholas Ridley
5. John Knox
6. Charles Spurgeon
7. Jonathan Edwards
8. Stonewall Jackson

I Couldn't Believe It When I Saw This Post. My Friends Will Tell You That I Love My Reformed Heroes (sometimes Too Much!).

October 16, will be the 450th anniversary of Hugh Latimer and Nicholas Ridley's martyrdom in 1555. As they were fastened to their stakes to be burned, Latimer spoke these famous words:

Be of good cheer, Master Ridley, and play the man!
We shall this day by God's grace light such a candle in England as never to be put out!"

That is one of my favorite Christian quotes. Did you realize that nearly the same thing is said to Faithful (from Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress) just before he is martyred? I find the connection fascinating.

It is one of my favourite quotes also.
