Someone close to me just got made redundant when her whole department got closed down and moved to America. She is pregnant but the company will not pay her any maternity pay even though they will be paying this to someone who has been there slightly longer than her. She really loved her job and worked very hard earning pay rises and promotions and glowing reviews from her bosses. But now all that seems worthless and wasted as they are just getting rid of her. Obviously this puts her family in a difficult situation also financially as when they planned this pregnancy they thought that the maternity pay would be there also to help tide them over.

What words of advice or encouragement would you give to this Christian lady.

2 Chronicle 20:15-17 And he said, "Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the LORD to you: "Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God's. Tomorrow go down against them. They will surely come up by the Ascent of Ziz, and you will find them at the end of the brook before the Wilderness of Jeruel. You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!' Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the LORD is with you."

Psalm 35:1-2, 22-23 Plead my cause, O LORD, with those who strive with me; fight against those who fight against me. Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for my help...This You have seen, O LORD; do not keep silence. O Lord, do not be far from me. Stir up Yourself, and awake to my vindication, to my cause, my God and my Lord. (The whole Psalm is a powerful prayer!)

Psalm 37:3-6 Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass. He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday.

Psalm 55:22 Cast your burden on the LORD, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.

Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.'

Romans 8:28, 31 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose...What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

1 Corinthians 15:57-58 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.

Philippians 4:6-7, 19-20 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus...And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Now to our God and Father be glory forever and ever. Amen.

Hebrews 6:10 For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

1 Peter 5:6-7 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

Thanks both helpful:

Trust in God who alone sees the big picture and who has weighed the positives and negatives and come to the judgment He thinks best for this lady. He will punish those who have not honoured Him in this situation and He will bless those who have. He will fight for those who love Him and because they trust in Him and in the end justice will be done because He is the one who will be the Judge.

Tell her that God has bigger plans for her even though it may seem like the worst has happened. God will surely use her. Tell her to spend time in prayer(seems like she's got lots of time now) and focus on what God wants her to do with her life.
