Today at lunch I was listening to a commentator speak of an incident that happened not too long ago on a flight to chicago. While boarding the man noticed a marine sergeant boarding at the same time he was with a large American Flag folded under his arm. The man invited the sergeant to sit with him in first class. After being seated the man asked the sergeant where he was going. The young man said he was escorting a friend home. The man asked where the friend was and the marine said he was in the cargo hold in a casket. He was escorting his friends body home. He'd been killed in Irag just a couple days before. As the reality of the situation dawned on the man he felt very proud to be sitting near this young man and he thanked this marine sergeant for doing what he did so we could all do what we do.
After arriving in Chicago the pilot stopped short of the off loading ramp and announced on the speakers that they had been blessed with the opportunity to fly sergeant so and so to Chicago so he could escort a fallen comrade to his family. The pilot asked everyone to remain seated until the sergeant deplaned and received the casket. Everyone sat silently as requested and watched as the sergeant left the plane. They watched as he saluted the casket as it was brought out of the plane and brought next to his side as he waited for the hearst to come and load it up.
Just one more day of the goings on in America? Just one more proud marine doing his duty?
Tomorrow is Friday and the commentator has asked that all "red blooded Americans" wear the color red tomorrow to show support for the troops who serve so galantly for our freedoms. Make it red friday from here on out until our troops come home.
When most combat troops are asked what they want from their country the majority will say " We want our country to love us as much as we love it. " Lets show how much we love them tomorrow by wearing red and praying for them.
Holy Father, today Lord we lift up our soldiers who are in harms way to Your throne. Cover them with Your wings of protection Lord. Bless them Holy One as they serve this awesome country You have blessed so much. Father give them peace in their hearts and surround them with Your love. Keep the enemy of all our souls away from them Lord. Death always seems to near Father and we long for the day when we won't see death ever again. Please be with the family of those who have fallen in battle, wrap Your loving arms around them Father and give them Your peace as well.
Father we know that wars are never going to cease until You come but we pray Lord to give the right cause a victory in the end. Help us Lord to endure these hardships and bless this country we live in. God please smile on America the land of the free and the home of the brave.
In Jesus Name,
Amen
God bless you all,
