Once an individual(s) S.I.'er has been working at recover. Hopefully, this person or people know by now what the root causes are. And have a pretty good list of the things that serve as triggers.
I would trust and pray that your journey(s) would continue and not stop there. For if we stand still then upward or downward we cannot go. I would like to think that all of us would move beyond "replacement" behavoirs.
That some of tne new goals would be to integrate spiritual, phisical, and the emotional part of the self. The best road to full recovery must be whoelistic in nature. God did not make us as "piecemeal" people. We are created in His image (Genesis 1:27).
God's image is quite complicated. He is all powerfull. He has all knowledge. And He is everywhere at the sametime. But this is not what I wish to focus on. God's character is what we are to seek after. That will include the mind, body, and spirit.
There is a lot of Scripture to testify of this. However, this foru is not for a "Spiritual Thesis". So relax. What I would like us to all, including myself, to consider. Is to think in terms beyond the finite self. Now that, my friends, is how we can change from barely making it from day to day to being an OVERCOMER!
Jesus promised to give us a Comforter(The Holy Spirit). It is His job to come along side and help us (John 14:16;16:13-15).
In brief, start looking outside of the proverbial box. Work on yourself Spiritually. Have devotions. a private time with God. Memorize a verse once in awhile. Take notes in church. Learn something each week that will guide you a step farther in God's realm.
Take care of yourself physically. Eat a healthy diet. Drink enough fluids. Get enough sleep and exercize. I know how tough it is to do such things when one is depressed. As NIKE says, "Just Do It!" The endorphines will kick in. You will feel better.
Having a prper diet and sleep cycle affects the functiioning of the brain more than you realize. Invest in yourself. You are worth it (Psalm 139:17,18; John 3:16).
Emotionally...., recognize those triggers as they approach and take "safety" precautions. It is your life and the quality of your friendships and possibly some family members are affected by what you choose to do.
Also, stat looking around like you do in the forum. Who can you encourage today? Take an active role in the lives of those you're acquainted with or see a need that God has given you to meet.
Think about the future everyday. For everyday is the future. Because the moments that have passed will never return again. Look forward to a life with the possibility of being beyong reproach. That is without argueing or full of contention. And having a reputation of being harmless. This means having pure motives. Not desiring to manipulate yourself or others.
Let the Light of God shine within and through you. He gives the worlds largest Warm Fuzzies
. Others will be drawn to you. They will seek your wisdom, advice, and direction.
Above all. Do not give up! God hasn't. And He chooses not to. What right do we have to throw in the towel if the God of the universe holds us in the palm of His Hand (John 10:29).
Live your life as if you have a future. Because you do and you are worth it.
