Recommended UMC books?

As someone who is exploring the UMC and wants to learn more, what books would you recommend? I see that there is the Book of Discipline, Book of Worship, and Hymnal, are all recommended for laity? Are there any prayer books? Books about Wesleyan history and theology?

Try "Living our Beliefs" by Kenneth L. Carder and also "Revival: Faith as Wesley Lived It" by Adam Hamilton. Also, "United Methodist Questions; United Methodist Answers" by Belton Joyner. You could also look into John Wesley's sermons and journal.

Thank you, I saw a few different books that contain John Wesley's sermons, any particular one that you would recommend?

This one is a good collection of 60 of his sermons arranged in an order that coincides with the "way of salvation".

I have a Kindle version that comes in three "books" of Wesley's complete sermons. They just have the sermons and no other commentary, but they aren't abridged or have anything edited out.

He's definitely a very interesting and inspiring person! I had grown jaded about Christianity in general after years of being in a different denomination, but it was John Wesley who helped to re-inspire my enthusiasm and my becoming Methodist! Finally I'd found a theology that was like my own!
