Recommendations for family study

Hello brothers and sisters!

It seems my family has hit a snag or a roadblock in our various weekly bible studies. I'm needing advice on supplemental study material for my family.

Several times a week, my kids, wife and I will sit down on the couch and study the bible. It's casual, we enjoy it and best of all we usually learn from it.

We have done this long enough so that we have covered just about everything. I'm not saying know the bible perfectly. We can continue to re-read and read some more but I think we need some supplemental family material that will grow our relationship with Christ as a family.

Any recommendations? Books or other resources? My kids are 8 and 10 so looking for something we can all enjoy and grow with.

When our kids were your kids ages we read from the one year bible . Wife would do the OT for the day, I did the NT , older son the Psalms , younger son from Proverbs . We didn't make the whole year maybe 5 or 6 months before summer took over when we began to miss. But it did set a nice tone in the home with every one equally involved ..

We try our best to do a little reading at least 2-3 times a week in the evening. We eventually made it through most of the old and new testaments but as we are re-reading, the kids are like, "I already know this story dad!". I'm happy they remember but now I'm trying to find other ways to learn at home as a family... I'm sure there are others in a similar situation. I suppose we could kick it up a notch and go for more in depth studies. I don't want to overwhelm the kids though.

Why don't you ask your kids if they have any idea what they would like to do to know Jesus/God better?

I agree it shouldn't be a chore but pleasant with patience .I remember a door to door salesman came by , we had the TV off and reading , we invited him in to join , He said "Well, I've never run into this before,

That's funny It's amazing how God will work through us. Occasionally we will have neighborhood kids wanting to play during our bible study. The kids invite them in and they are always happy to join us for a quick study

I remember doing this as a child growing up so I know it has a lasting positive impact on the family.

You know it's easy to miss the simple steps. I'll take your advice and try leaning on the kids a bit more. After all, they are 100 times more creative than I am.
