  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was thinking of getting glass rose bowls. We could fill them halfway with water, put some wedding confetti to float on the water, and then place a floating candle in there. I might possibly get ribbon to tie around the top of the rose bowls too....I am not sure yet.

Does anyone know what else could be done with rose bowls for centerpieces?

My boyfriend's sister had these really cute lanterns for her reception. They were sitting on a piece of glass and around the lanterns on the glass were rose petals and cute confetti things. Then she also had little tea light candles that sat in these cute glass tea light candle holders. On the glass holders she wrote (in silver permanent marker) "Nickolas & Charissa June 10, 2006" They were really cool. The glass candle holders were from Ikea and she bought them in a blue hue (very subtle hue!), and one of her wedding colors was periwinkle.

The whole thing was so good looking. I want to do something similar for my wedding.

I was looking up some more ideas yesterday and I found a few good ones but the one I really like was 3 boxes wrapped up in our theme colors and tied together with a pretty and and placed in the middle of the table. The only thing I was concerned with was that it might be too tall and be in peoples way.

It was a good idea. But, you do have a good point...people won't be able to talk across the table if they can't see each other, hehe.

My aunt is decorating the reception site with flowers. I'm not allowed to know what is being done, but I have every faith in her! Here however are a few good ideas for a do it yourself sprucing up of the site that won't break the bank. I will always advice people to decorate the site themselves or have it done by people they love. Not just because people who do it professionally charge insane amounts of money (they always do when the 'wedding' word falls) but also because it will be much more personal and less 'standard, as done at every wedding'. Even professionals who promise something one of a kind will come through with an original idea (if they're true to their word) but it will always have that sleek, professional touch which has less emotion.

- clusters of tealights are always a good idea for an evening wedding.

- Small clear glass vases just filled with low flowers are lovely.

- Ivy is the best 'filler centerpiece' in the world. Add a branch of ivy to the center of the table and you don't need anything more (though if you want, you could add the tealights). Bonuspoints for this centerpiece because Ivy represents fidelity. *G*

- As soon as you get engaged, keep your eyes out for a 50 % discount or anything on a big bolt of tulle. Tule is usable for EVERYTHING, but especially good when cut in strips to make full bows that you can use to decorate whatever you wish. Remainders can be used to wrap favours, wrap gifts, wrap around the pot of centerpieces and so on. Only do this if you LIKE tulle. Otherwise you'll quickly get tired of it.

- Banners: if you have some creative people in the family, consider buying some pretty fabric and let them decorate it. If you have a childfriendly wedding, a great idea is to let the children make one banner themselves. Sew the top back to create a pocket, put in a lightweight stick, add one to the bottom as well (this will make sure the banner hangs down nicely) and use two eyelets to hang the banner with twine or a ribon. DON'T do this yourself, you'll have enough to stress about. Unless you are a creative person who will LOVE this and you can have it done at least two months before the wedding.

- favour/ reception decoration combination idea. Those cute little plants in a container (about two or two and half inches in diameter containers) trooped together make a perfect centerpiece. And your favours are done right away too.

- Another idea if you have either lots of time, a small wedding or a helpful mother or grandmother with an embroidery sewing machine: Choose napkings in either white or one of the wedding colour and have each one embroidered with a merry design. While I normally love monogramming for napkins, you can go for something a bit more festive. Unless of course you want a more formal wedding.

- If you are renting a hall, ALWAYS go look at it and work WITH the existing colours. If you have a redwalled ballroom, don't chose pastels as your wedding colours, because then you'll have to find a way to cover your entire wall.

I needed to spice this thread up with some pictures! Our colors are red, cream, silver, and a little pink. (I couldn't resist the pink) The first picture is going to be my bouquet (maybe some cream roses also mixed in because the bridesmaids will have cream roses with red dresses.
The second is going to be the general idea of our ceremony decorations (outside wedding, on grass) but the flowers and petals will be red/pink/cream and the chairs are white.

The 3rd picture is similar to our centerpieces...but at the same time very different.... lol (we have cream pillar candles, circle tables, red sheer cloth)

The 4th is going to be our signature platter (instead of a guestbook) but it will be oval. I love this idea, and we always bought a platter display holder thingy.

The cake is going to be very similar to our cake, but with a K for my new last name and different flowers on top. Oh, and hopefully NOT fondant. :)

*giggles* I couldn't resist pink for one of my colors either. Beautiful bouquet by the way! *winks*

I think the cheapest centerpiece my fiance and I could come up with was one 8'' to 9'' tissue wedding bell on each table. It works! Plus, if it is only 8 - 9'' the guests will be able to see over it to talk to each other.

My Bouquet...

I think those centerpieces are darling! If you wanted you culd just sprinkle rose petals or candy or something around them, or use a colorful tablecloth to make the white stand out :)

Lol, I think I have gotten way to into this wedding stuff:p But, only a month and a half left and I can't wait! I'll be so glad when its here, and then over, and then I'm laying on a beach in Jamaica! I thought the day would never come!

Yeah, true...different color table cloths could do the trick.

It would be nice to lay on the beach in the sun for a honeymoon. But, my fiance and I are going to the Smoky Mountains instead. For the two of us it is probably a better idea because we burn in the sun far too easily.

I am sooo happy for you! Only a month and a half left...that is wonderful! It seems like our wedding is forever away!

I don't know if you can really tell from these pictures, but I had white half pillars with vases of flowers up and down the aisle during the ceremony. I then moved those for the reception center pieces. My favors also served to decorate in a way and add color. They are purple boxes wrapped in ribbon with fortune cookies inside.

My mom and I came up with the ideas and did all the decorating ourselves, except for arranging the flowers, the florist did that.

I like the latern idea, my sister is thinking about doing that for her wedding.

I have better pictures, but I don't have access to that computer right now.

We did very little in terms of decorating. I think really the only decorating we did was the centrepieces, and we had a couple extra ones that we placed on other tables and flat places.

We used rose bowls with those round stones in (a variety pack of white and clear ones), filled half-way with water, and then a single hydrangea in it, sort of sitting on the top. Each bowl had a green or white ribbon tied in a bow around it. The bowls were placed on an inverted soup bowl (from the hall) which was covered in a pretty piece of green fabric. They looked great.

I'll post a pic later if I can find one.
