  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

There are alot of thin skinned folks out there, and Christians are no exception. Besides, when you get different personalities on a forum like this, its bound to happen. There is alot to say about actually talking to someone face to face, or even by phone versus reading someones post. Things can be mis-interpreted as being hostile, or taken completely out of context. Then one verbal barb leads to another and so on. Its a vicious cycle, lol. I know from experience, (not here though) and I have been on both sides of the coin, so it happens.

Perhaps viewed in different perspectives

(out of control=thread stopped)
some peole are very passionate about theur beliefs.
This is what I viewed when I read that thread. Maybe it hit home a little too closely and that's why someone else had an objection?

Thanks I'll check it out.

Believe it or not...someone that used to follow me around another board trying to pick fights with me just tried it here. Thank you Erwin for the "unsubscribe" and "ignore" features.

I don't know why some people seem to only be happy when their wreaking havoc on others. But, whatever floats their boat I guess.

Okay, I just read the thread. I didn't see anything really bad in it. It may just be because I'm a veteran of much harsher Christian forums where people are overtly belligerent towards each other as a matter of course. Having that perspective may be why this didn't seem to be much more than a difference of opinion to me.

Thank you for posting the link though. I appreciate it.

Regarding the problem though, I think that if we post to others as we would like them to post to us (modified golden rule) and If we don't respond in kind when anyone is less than pleasant towards us. Then discussions can be quite edifying and respectful as a result.

Hey, I don't know about you...but that's why I come here. If everyone agreed, I would be bored out of my mind. I like a little different perspective when discussing anything. That's how I grow in my understanding.

It never ceases to amaze me however how some people seem to need others to agree with them, or they get very upset and/or angry. I mean, I have children, and that's how my kids acted when they were toddlers. Seems that anyone that is old enough to type would be a little old to think that that was a reasonable expectation. But maybe I'm oversimplifying. ;)
