To the OP : I didn't but I believe many americans are out of touch with the rest of the world and therefore have ethnocentric views about the US.

Condisering the disease of racism is still rampant in the US, not sure how it's ethnocentric. I see it more as Nationalism.

As a Brit, interested in Religion & Politics, I'd like to know why folks voted for/support Bush.

As a Brit naturalized as a US citizen and having been here 7 years, I've been asking myself the same question.

My MIL is amazing. She voted for him, but every day as we're watching TV she seems to say something or another that is a policy of the Democratic party. She was on about how bar the war is Iraq is and how we were deceived. A few days ago she was on about stem cell research and how it should be encouraged. You name it and she says "They should do X" which is what Kerry said, yet she voted Bush.

Isn't that the beauty of America? We have so many different cultures co-existing. Many Americans do not share a common and distinctive national heritage specifically because of racism. That was the main point I was trying to make. Been studying this stuff for a couple of years so I tend to overkill sometimes, not trying to antagonize or nothing.

Ethnicity has nothing at all to do with skin color.

So, do you think all Americans share the same culture? Maybe that is where we are hitting a fork in the road because I don't see that.
