Is 1:18 “Come now, and let us reason together,” Says the LORD, “Though your sins are as scarlet, They will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They will be like wool.
This is one of my favorite verses, and the more I talk to Him the more I like this verse. That is because more I talk to Him the more I find out that He is reasonable!!!
That doesn't mean that everything is ok, but it means that He both gives great advice, and perhaps even more important, it also means that He cares about what we think!!
I often tell people that the most common thing I hear from Him is "Karl, I love you." I'm not lying, but there might actually be something I hear more, and that is "Karl, what to you think?" Those words don't have the instant impact on me that "I love you" does so I don't remember or consider them as much, but they are really the same words.
He doesn't just want you to come reason with Him to show you that your thinking is not right. He wants you to come reason with Him because He loves you!! Therefore, He considers what you have to say and think. Just a warning though; You might want to make it more about what He thinks than what you think.
1 Sam 8:1 The Lord said to Samuel, "Listen to the voice of the people in regard to all that they say to you
1 Sam 8:22 the Lord said to Samuel, "Listen to their voice and appoint them a king."
Now those two verses are kind of a warning about seriously listening to what the Lord has to say when you decide to reason with Him, but He really does want to know what you are thinking!! So tell Him, but just be willing to listen to what He is thinking. If you do that you will be surprise at how He listens and brings about things that you cared enough to reason with Him on. Maybe not everything, but not all things we want are good for us. But if you are willing to reason with Him and listen to Him then He will not give you things that are bad for you, will He? He will be able to tell you that something you want is not good but He probably knows something that will be even better for you that will get you what you really wanted anyway.
Anyway - please reason with the Lord. It is worth it! You will find Him very reasonable in the best sense of the word!
