  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I have some friends (nice people, but not very computer savy) that have a problem. They had there first baby about a month ago, and took tons of digital pictures. They then burned them on a cd. ok, so far everythings good. THen they took more pictures, burned all of the picture files (old and new) them on the SAME CD. repeat process several more times. Then, delete pics of harddrive. Now, of course they can't read anything on the cd. Is there anyway of getting this info off?

There are various programs that claim to ability to undelete files. Whether this is possible or not really depends on some variables, primarily how much the HDD has been used since the deletion. If they haven't done much that would write to the HDD, they may very well be able to get some of the pictures back.

I think powerquest and symantic both have fairly decent undelete programs, but I haven't researched the topic enough to really make any strong recommendations.

Awwwww...thats a shame.  My son is good with computers...he agrees with jon.

Me, I'd have to take the whole tower into my tech and beg him to stop laughing at me long enough to help.  Heehee.  (Lost is computer illiterate.)

I myself have a silli question.  Is there any chance they are so computer illiterate that they don't know about the recycle bin?  That happened to a friend of mine once.  She was working on a college paper and had difficulties.  Called me and I told her to check the bin......she hadn't heard of it.  It saved her and she thought I was some kind of a computer wiz.  rofl

Good luck!  I sure hope they save the pics!

I had a similar problem with My wife Burner. Then I realize.. in the CD writer program there is a part that you need to tell it to make it readable by other CD ROMs. Once i did that.. then the CD worked great.
Not sure if this will work.. but hey it's worth checking out. right? ;)

They probably can retrieve them, with some money. You can get pretty much anything that has been on the harddrive with a lot!!!!! of knowledge. Not sure where they would be able to go for that, but even if they did find someone that new computers inside and out it could cost quite a bit. Sorry I can't help any more.

What do you mean "can't read anything on the cd"?

I'm taking a guess that you're using MS Windows. When you put it in the CD-ROM drive are the symptoms anything of the following:

1) CD-ROM constantly spinning (You'll know as you'll here a whirring type sound starting and stopping)

2) Does it eventually come up with a "Cannot read from Drive X" (X being any letter)

3) Have you tried accessing it through Windows Explorer?

4) if they've got another CD Drive there try it in one of them

...5) just thought what program are they using to burn the pictures? If it is a software application (i.e. Nero Burning Rom) then they used something like Windows XP own burner then its possible that XP has messed up the FAT on the CD.

6) What setting was picked when you chose to burn the pics? Multisession, Final Write etc... (If you don't know, its not a huge problem)

7) What formats are the pictures in? jpeg, bmp etc...

(Sound like a piggin doctor don't I!?! :))

You can add any type of data to the end of the CD as long as it hasn't been finalised. If it has then its pretty impossible (although I think can be bypassed with a few tweaks to the actual drive...I daren't try it though!) to actually continue writing to it. Also depends on the software, some software doesn't support multi-sessions (writing to a disc more than once).
