  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

If Christianity doesn't sway me, then what logical reason would I have to judge based the level of commitment to an ideology that I don't have any interest in?

As I noted, I see the content of what he said as the problematic part, not that he's "not being a good enough Christian while claiming to be a Christian"

It'd be like non-vegan critiquing a vegan for catching them saying something terrible while eating a hamburger, and focusing on the hamburger part.
Hmmm....not quite. IF it was against veganism to be talking while you were eating that would be a BIT closer.

I'm actually kind of surprised that this Trump easter moment isn't the one getting all the attention

Where he's trash talking for about 2 minutes with a shadowy giant bunny standing next to him
Honestly, this is like another day at the office.

I meant if they were eating the burger...

For instance, catching a PETA member eating a burger while they were talking about committing arson at a research facility.

I have no problem with burgers, so why would I opt to focus on them "not being vegan enough while claiming to be" when I don't care about that part?, I'd care about the arson part.

It's a basic integrity thing. If you claim that you stand for something, but say and do things that are antithetical to what you claim to stand for, why should I trust your integrity in anything else?

Greene's post is the equivalent of critiquing a vegan for going off on a speech about how they want to run a slaughterhouse while eating a hamburger, and mentioning the hamburger as an aside.

It's problematic for me because I want to be led by men of good quality; of even temperment and excellent communication.
I think we all feel that way but then what they simply do is hide behind that very mask... and we end up with what we had pre-Trump. Slick used car salemen. I guess we don't like reality.
