  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

As I posted on another thread I am at the least sympathetic to many Word of Faith distinctives. The only reason I word it this way is because while I have visited some WOF churches (I was warmly welcomed) and read a book or two by Kenneth Hagin; I can't honestly say I understand what sets WOF apart from the Charismatic background that I have.

I am writing to ask if there is any particular reading material you can recommend to me? Except for the Scriptures of course I am not sure if there is any particular work that gives a good general overview of WOF. I enjoyed what I read from Kenneth Hagin so I would probably read any recommendations you make for him. But are there others?

the below listed books would be of the utter most help for you, my brother in understanding the roots & the theology for the message of faith.

many folk who disagree with the message of faith, stating that it is a modern day upstart, fail to see, or ignore that it actually has its roots in the most fundamental & sound scholars & teachers of the last one hundred & fifty years.

of course we also know that it first springs forth in genesis 1:3, where we see god the creator working by the divine "word of faith" which was spoken forth from his lips....

1)" another side of the coin, the other side of the controversy surrounding the faith message", by gregg n. huestis.

2)" god in a box? the sovereignty of god in word of faith theology" by chad marinelli.

3)"faith & the pharisees, sincere critics have been sincerely wrong about the word of faith teachings" by ted rouse

4) "why suffering cannot be god's will", by ted rouse

5) "e.w. kenyon, the true story", by joe mcintyre

6) "e.w kenyon, cult founder or evangelical minister?",m by geir lie

7) e.w. kenyon & the postbellum pursuit of peace, power, & plenty", by dale h. simmons

8) "the midas touch", by kenneth e. hagin

there are a few others out there, but i have found these to be the most exhaustive, & also having the fullest depth of gods message & lifestyle of faith from a scriptural platform, they explore from all aspects both sides of the argument, & also display some of the richest truths by highly respected bible teachers who were pillars in early america & across the ocean.

men such as a.t pierson, a.j. gordon, r.a. torrey, d.l. moody, charles spurgeon, andrew murray, a.b. simpson. s.d. gordon, r.w. dale, johnathan edwards, henry c. mabie, george muller, e.n. bell, none of these men today would be called as we are, spirit filled , tongue talkers, instead they are still recognized & respected as some of the most prolific bible teachers, & of the soundest fundamental minds, but you will see, that what we call the word of faith movement has its birth through these men & there message of faith, in many ways we are still babes in comparison to their message of faith.

i also forgot to mention another book titled, "so great a salvation, the message of keswick", by steven barabas.

what we would call the faith message of today was birthed by these & other men & women of the deeper life movement & the keswick meetings, in particular has they began to associate with american ministers & even moved here.

i will say this though, there are several prominent ministries out there, that many call "word of faith", but in actuality, they are not, & have stirred up a lot of the attacks because of there behavior, & erroneous unscriptural messages.

a good web site to go to is "victory in the word", by troy edwards, & mark hankins has a site also.

i would recommend watching kenneth copeland, mark hankins, charles cowans, & freddy is aslways ready, fred price.

i do think these books might all be available at amazon.com.

Read YOU'VE ALREADY GOT IT! by Andrew Wommack.

It sums up the essential message of the faith movement!

Cheers,
|ZZ|

KingZzub;
I will order it soon. Thank you for the advice. I have heard of Andrew Wommack but was not aware he was considered WOF.

Would then Rod Parsley also be considered WOF?

Thanks again

I really enjoyed the book.. Blessed beyond Measure by Gloria Copeland. This book is a sheer delight to read.. It speaks about the utter awesomeness of God.. So many talk about getting this and that from God.. but it isn't like that at all.. It is all about God.. and how good and great He is.. When you get to really know HIM.. you just receive so much because of how wonderful He is! You are blessed to know HIM!
