  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What are your thoughts about reading about demonology? I've read everything I could about the late Ed and Lorraine Warren who were a devout Catholic couple. I also read many stories about Father Amorth.

Is it spiritually dangerous?

God bless

Consider when the Israelites were beginning their conquest of the promised land, only two men were sent, not the entire host.

Jos 2:1 And Joshua the son of Nun sent two men secretly from [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]tim as spies, saying, “Go, view the land, especially Jericho.” And they went and came into the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab and lodged there.

Not everyone is equipped to handle such things, as it can lead to misunderstandings, temptation, among other things.
If you feel the Lord is leading you to research in order to equip yourself for a deliverance ministry, than follow the Lord. But if you are just reading to satisfy some morbid curiosity, I would advise against it. It's enough to know demons are bad and should be avoided. As someone once told me, as I was asking a similar question. "The potential for reward is very slim, the potential for error is very great."
Pray about it.

Any mortal sin can open you up to possession

"people become possessed through mortal sins of pride, fornication, for men, especially its been porn....."~Father Ripperger

any mortal sin is an open door

So perhaps the question to discern is what is driving you to seek this knowledge, and what have been the outcomes of this searching and reading?

I like the movies. The Nun was pretty good. One unnecessary swear word, but otherwise a decent Catholic themed movie.

as you behold, so will you glow

whatever you set your eyes on, whatever you look at and observe

the glow of that thing is going to be upon you

if your looking at ugly things, blasphemous things, immoral things

that's the glow that you're going to cast

that's the holiness that you're pursuing

we become what we behold

While I'd generally avoid it, there is one book you might find interesting if you haven't read it already, namely "Interview with an Exorcist" by Jose Antonio Fortea.

I've got it on my bookshelf.

It's easy to read and in a question and answer format. I learnt a few things about the subject including some unexpected facts eg. the devil can't read minds and he can't see the future.

If you read it, I'd suggest you then put it aside and give demonology a break for a while. It's not a healthy topic.

Isnt Demonology simply the study of truth about demons and evil spirits?

I see no danger to that if you keep it Jesus focused. The scriptures tell us that we have all authority over evil spirits and demons. Scriptures also tell us about 1000 times, do not fear..fear not...fear no evil....

Casting spirits out of people is the miracle that Jesus did above all others. So it's like Peter walking on water. Don't take your focus off of Jesus or you may be alone. But any demon or spirit must obey the name of the Lord Jesus. They have to.

I've never seen a demon or anything of the sort, but what is the danger in geholding one (seeing one)...If you can see them then they can't sneak up on you right?

Some demons are stronger than others. Sometimes you must know them by name or they wont be cast out.

If I seen a demon, I wouldn't even pay any attention to him at all and I would start looking for Jesus. They want the attention from you. Don't give it to them beyond casting them out in Jesus name.

I don't think it is healthy. We should keep our minds up ward.
Phil 4:8" Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things."

I actually dreamed about Ed and Lorraine Warren last night. I've heard a lot of negative feedback about them, and read a lot of negative things regarding their personal lives.

I am going to offer a Divine Mercy Chaplet for the repose of their souls!

Lorraine is actually being considered for the Sainthood! May she be received into eternal glory! Amen.

I'd never heard of Ed and Lorraine Warren till Riley G.mentioned them. I proceeded to look them up on the internet and it seems they were paranormal investigators.

I'm not interested in paranormal experiences even though I've had a couple myself. I've long claimed my father turned up the night he died, starting with an apology for the way he'd treated me; we had an exchange of views and at the end he gave this absolutely terrifying scream and then disappeared.

Most of the time he was looking behind me and over my head with an appearance of awe on his face. When I turned around to see what he was looking at all I saw was the bedroom wall. But sometimes he would put his hands over his face as though he could not bear to see what he was seeing. I surmise he was seeing parts of his life that were not very pleasant in front of the divine gaze.

At the end, he turned to my left, his right, cried out "No!", then more urgently "NO!!!, and then gave the scream I mentioned above. It was obvious something was coming for him and I think it was satanic. Going by the terror I think it's a good idea to leave them alone. Then he disappeared. That was the last time I saw him and it is over 44 years ago now. Yet I still remember a large part of our conversation starting with my opening exclamation "How the hell did you get in here?", his first reply "I've come (or been sent) to apologise to you for the way I've treated you... We had no idea what you were going through!"

I snapped back "You mean you had no idea what you were doing to me!" and it went on in that vein.

There was another incident due to a prediction by my old Presbyterian pastor which happened as he said it would, although it took some years to take place.

But in neither case did I go looking for an "experience" - they just happened for whatever reason.

I did go to a couple of "exorcists" when I was a new Christian, but nothing happened in my case. I'd been getting some spiritual harassment which was a new experience for me at that time. I'm a bit blase about it now as I've had so much of it and I'm well aware the spiritual world exists from experience. There was one benefit in that I learnt a few things rather quickly about this hitherto hidden spiritual world.

They both told me that from time to time they had people floating around the ceiling (levitating). One of them said that the demons don't want to go, and will try every trick in the book to stay where they are. If they leave they go back to Hell and they don't want to go there.

Another pastor who had a ministry to street kids said to me that he had "... seen too much of it!" (the demonic) and added "... there's a very strange psychic world out there.."

I leave it alone and I'd advise everybody else to do the same thing.

No I do not think reading about them is giving them attention. It seems to me that all spirits both good and evil want to be worshipped. God does, the enemy does. You don't read about demons to try to contact them. You read and learn about demons so you can cast them out.

Scripture tells us to

Matthew 10:
7 Go and announce to them that the Kingdom of Heaven is near.[d] 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast out demons. Give as freely as you have received!.../NLT

So that passage comes across as a command for us. So to be able to cast out demons, you must be somewhat mature as a Christian and knowledgable about how to do it based on the type of demon. Some only go out with prayer & fasting. So some are stronger than others.

Now if a person is seeking God through a desire and effort into learning about becoming more mature and useful to the Kingdom, He is actually seeking God and giving no attention to the demon(s).

A military commander who studies the enemy in order to defeat him, is not become the enemy. As long as you make it about seeking the Lord through obedience and maturation in his heart will not fall prey to the enemy!

Matthew 7:7-8

7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened....KJV

So the Lord knows what is in our heart and if we desire to learn about how to cast out demons in sevice of the Lord then He will see that and protect us.

I know, the guy ran naked and beat upo from the house because of the demon. I can only think that the guys heart was not in the right place so he did not have protection. The "in Jesus name" didn't catch on until later in time than that I think? Something because scripture says His Word will not come back to Him void. They have to obey the name of Jesus. They tremble at the name.

And then the most repeated phrase in scripture over all is, do not fear. Fear not! Valley of the shadow of death, no fear. More Christians need to stand up on their spiritual feet. No one should stay, a babe in Christ.

I have tried to cast out demons. I have no clue if any of it ever worked. I don't know if I've ever seen a person possessed. But I have cast them out of my house as unwelcome. I've also come against the spirits over my city. No proof that I was sucessful, not even a change of atmosphere. But it may have had effect in the spiritual realm? Or not, but either way, it's good practice. Sucker punching them in the face with the Name of Yeshua!

Make no mistake Demons are real and active, they have no authority over God's Children so fear not. We know they are real as Jesus dealt with them. I have never engaged one, but am aware of and pray against them.

Then with witches and warlocks, they are physical so one has to be aware of that, also they operate and live in groups or covens. I am pretty sure a number of them would be operating out of the Church's of Satan, that is frequenting the news of late. In Africa and other places they call them witch doctors.

It is wise to know what evil you are encountering just walking the streets, being prepared or educated to me is not an issue.

His Grace and Peace to you all.

I saw one time that the word medicine in the scriptures comes from the word pharmikea from which we get our word Pharmacy. Under the definition it reads, sorcery.

So is it safe to say that the witch doctors took over the world? Because Pharmikea is the single biggest industry on earth.

Have an ill? We have a pill for that! It has side effects but don't mind those. +

BTW, I was only referring to Christian literature. This has nothing to do with witches, warlocks, or new age, which I avoid like the plague.

"I, Frankenstein" is a Catholic themed movie. The angels use the St. Michael prayer.
