Who are you? Ashe whispered into the cold night air. What do you want?
The icy mist surrounding Ashe blocked her view of the owner to the silhouette in front of her. She gave a huff of anger and stomped her foot. How could someone be so rude as to not answer a question directed at them? Taking a step forward Ashe decided to try again. Who are you? What are you doing here?
The silhouette stopped moving. Ashe took a deep breathe and decided to move closer. One step at a time, her sneakers squelched on the soggy grass. The figure was slightly clearer now. It was a little girl. She looked to be about seven or eight years of age with long shoulder length black hair. Ashe stopped dead in her tracks. Wheres your mommy? You shouldnt be out here alone, Ashe whispered.
A bad feeling struck Ashe. She took a step back as the little girl slowly turned around. Wh..Who Who are you? she shuddered as the girls dead black eyes pierced her gaze. A tear of fear rolled down Ashes cheek as a nasty grin spread across the girls face. What do you want?
Mommy died the other day. They found her in the kitchen all cut into little pieces, the little girls monotonous innocent voice filled Ashes head. She shuddered and took another step back.
Im so sorry. Do they know who did it? croaked Ashe.
They dont, the girls grin disappeared and was replaced with a murderous smile. But I do.
Ashe tried to speak but no words came from her mouth. She tried to take a step backwards and lost her balance. With a thud she hit the ground. The girl moved closer and stared deep into Ashes eyes. Wh Who did it? Ashe whispered.
The girls evil grin grew wider. A look of insanity filled her cold dark eyes though her voice remained sweet and innocent. I killed Mommy. I put her to sleep forever.
****
Ashe awoke with a gasp. The darkness around her began to cease as light poured back into sight. The girl was gone.
Nice of you to join us, Ashe. Did you have a good sleep? Melissa asked as she poked Ashe. Ashe pushed her away and sat up a little.
You guys know I fall asleep in cars, she said as she slapped Mel.
Who are you? What are you doing here? You shouldnt be here alone, jeered one of the boys in the front as Mel and him started giggling. Ashe sunk into her seat. It was pretty clear that she had been talking in her sleep. She pushed her long black hair behind her ears and looked out the window.
There hadnt been much rain in ages now. The grass along the side of the road was pretty much dead and the paddocks of what once was green luscious grass was now nothing but yellow straws poking sharply out of the ground. The sun belted down on the dead open turf.
Ashe gave a sigh. Who was that girl? she thought.
You okay, Ashe? You look sort of upset, Alexsandr asked as he looked back from the drivers seat. She looked up at him with a weak smile and nodded. The corner of Alexs mouth twitched before he turned back to the road. You do realize I worry about you, Ashe? he sighed.
Dont go all cutie-coo on us now, Alex, s******ed the guy in the front passenger seat. Alex gave a sharp stare over his way.
Youre cruising for a bruising, Cam, Alex replied with a threatening tone.
Ashe gave another long sigh and looked over towards Mel. She was the second oldest in the group at eighteen years old. Her short black hair had been dyed so many times that Ashe didnt even know what the natural color was anymore. Mel gave a warm look over at Ashe as her sky blue eyes caught her glance. She gave a smile before turning and looking back out the window.
Mel and her had been friends since they were only little. They were always spending an endless amount of time with each other. When they were younger theyd always spend their holidays down at the beach together. That was until they started high school.
In high school a lot changed. Like typical girls they started getting into boys, cars and money. Several times Melissa had got herself into trouble with a guy and Ashe had to try and get her out. What are friends for?! shed always laugh and say. Though deep down each of those times broke Ashe a little bit. Not to mention Mel.
The scars were still on Mels wrists from that time in the schools toilets. It was just an average normal day. Mel had had an argument with her current boyfriend at the time and had run off into the restrooms. Ashe regretfully followed after her.
She remembered running into the restrooms to find Melissa lying insentient on the ground. Blood dripped from her wrists as Ashe stared in horror. She slowly made her way across the puddle of blood that lay on the tiles. A tear fell from her eye as she knelt down and stroked Mels cheek. Why, Mel, why? she whispered. Mel gave a groan as she opened her eyes slowly.
Ashe? she moaned. What happened? Ashe opened her mouth to speak but was shortly distracted by the mirrors. Slowly, she rose from her knees and made her way over to the looking glass. Melissa froze with fear as the light flickered before finally going out. Darkness filled the room. The only source of light was from a small window above the cubicles. Ashe stared in horror at her reflection. Wh Who are you? she whispered.
The face staring back at Ashe wasnt her face. That was the first time Ashe had ever seen that girl. From that day on it was as if the girl had been haunting Ashe. She couldnt get her out of her head. Those dead black eyes, that cold evil grin, that mind-numbing innocent voice. Who was she? What did she want?
You guys are quiet, Alex said as Ashe returned to reality. He looked over towards her before shrugging and turning back to the road. Just trying to make conversation.
Sometimes its better just to keep your mouth shut, Alex, Cam replied placing his feet on the dashboard. Cam was always the smartass of the group. He was the youngest and the most arrogant. He was also Ashes ex-boyfriend and Melissas closest male friend.
Cam had the oddest obsession with so called haunted houses and death. His black hair and eyeliner lined eyes symbolized this. If a guy died unexpectedly, Cam would be at the scene. He had a reputation of showing up places where he wasnt supposed to be. He was the reason for where they were going. Coming to think of that Ashe thought.
Where exactly are we going? she asked, leaning in between the two front seats.
To Hell, where do you think were going
Youre such a jerk, Cameron, Alex laughed before turning to face Ashe. Theres this place Cam wants to check out. Well probably be camping there a few nights.
Alex, if I can sleep in your bed Ill camp anywhere, but other than that I aint sleeping on the ground, Mel said with a lecherous grin on her face. Ashe slapped Mel and gave her a sharp stare. Cam looked back with a large grin.
You can sleep with me if you want, sweetheart, he said with a wink.
Okay, Ashe, Ive learnt my lesson, replied Mel as she turned away and looked out the window. Cameron frowned and ran his sturdy hands through his thick black hair. Suddenly, the car came to a halt.
Here we are, said Alex as he unbuckled his seatbelt. Ashe looked eagerly out the window to find herself staring at a huge dilapidated hospital. Slowly, she unbuckled her seatbelt and stepped out of the car. The group followed after her. Ashe made her way to the front of the car before stopping dead in her tracks. Alex walked over and stood next to her.
Its so huge, she said softly looking up at the five story building.
Its even bigger inside, Alex replied while slipping his keys into the left pocket of his pants. Ashe, what did you dream about while you were in the car? It was her again, wasnt it?
I always see her, Alex. You should know that by now, with this Ashe followed Cam as he entered the building. Alex gave a sigh and followed after her.
Welcome to Hell, Cam said as he entered through the huge oak double doors. He gave a grin before coming to a halt and looking around. The group stopped next to him before also looking around.
What is this place? asked Melissa as she looked up at the corroding ceiling. The ceiling was high, must have been nearly 12 feet high. The rooms looked as if they used to be warm and welcoming, but currently were in a state of disarray. There was an odd feeling to this place, almost as if someone was looking down at you like you were an insect, an unwanted bug. But it was the entrance that hit you the hardest. It was beautiful. The huge winding staircase and the gigantic arch you walked through the second you entered it. It used to be striking, but now it was desolate and run down. The place almost looked as if it were dead
This, this is an old psychiatric asylum that was shut down in the early 1950s, Alex answered as he knelt down.
Youre right, Cam, Mel giggled. This place sure does look like Hell. Cam gave a little chuckle.
Why was it shut down? asked Ashe as she walked over towards Alex. Alex looked up at her before looking sorrowfully at the dusty floor.
Some guy went crazy, Cam snickered. Alex looked up and rolled his eyes.
Of course he was crazy, it was a ****en psychiatric hospital, you dick, Alex snarled. It was said that one of the patients here cut up everyone in his ward before setting on the entire hospital.
