To answer a bunch of questions on calvinism, arminianism, and biblicism. Instead of learning of these notions from only the Christian Forums read the following three books and make up your own mind.

1. The Potters Freedom - James White (the essential apologetic on calvinism)

2. What Love is this? Calvinisms Misrepresentation of God - Dave Hunt (an answer to calvinism)

3. The Faith of God's Elect - (I'll have to find my copy to get the author but you can search by title) This book is a comparison of the election of Theology and the election of the Bible.

Read those three books and decide for yourself. Of course have your Bible handy to test and compare what is written. If I had to pick only one it would be "The Faith of God's Elect". It is a non-aggressive examination of theological election (calvinism) against the teaching of election in the Bible. The book "What Love is this? Calvinisms misrepresentation of God" may be difficult to find. If you've ever read any of Dave Hunt's work you'll know that he is a very easy author to read.

So study and decide. This doesn't mean that I'm not going to answer the PM's on the subject that you've all sent me (that I haven't answered already), it is just recommended reading on the subject.

Peace.

Hey BT!

I'll be looking for a copy of the third book you mentioned, thanks for the recommendation.
I've read the other two along with many reviews and critiques. I thought James White's critique of Hunt's work was sloppy and mean, but that's me. I love the Berean Call.

No problem Razorbuck. I also read White's critique of Hunt. It was mean, I think he was on the offensive because of some things that Dave wrote in his book. What I've seen mostly is an attack on Dave's lack of degrees, which matters to me not at all. But then those two have a bit of a history so you have to take that into consideration. Also I find that when I recommend the book many people will seek to parrot the things that White said. My advice to them is.. just read the book... I really hope you find that third one.. it is my favorite of all three.. it is non aggressive and very easy to read. I think it took me 1 day the first time. It's a thin, but powerful book.

Hunt's book was discontinued, but he participated in a book with James White in which they debate both sides... that book is still available.

C.H. Macintosh has a great article on the position that is neither Arminian or Calvinistic.

I posted it in another thread... I'll look for it.

I've looked in three bookstores and can't find "The Faith of God's Elect". Can it be purchased online? Anybody know who the author is?
Ok Sorry Razor, I had to dig through my bookshelves.... :help:

Ok "The Faith of God's Elect, a comparison between the election of Scripture and the election of Theology" by - John F. Parkinson (here's why you're having trouble) Published by Gospel Tract Publications 7 Beech Av., Glasgow, Scotland. There is a website on the inside cover www.penfoldbooks.com You should be able to pick it up there.

Here's a quote from the back (that I agree with 100%)

"The author has combined careful biblical exposition with seasoned humility and simplicity to recapture a clear understanding of the essential truths of divine election and unconditional grace. He depends on the Spirit of God to use the repeated exposure of Holy Scripture to give understanding, edification, thanksgiving and worship." Jim McColl, Australia

"This book exhorts us to form our doctrines by allowing each verse of Scripture to speak for itself and to carry its natural meaning, rather than by forcing on all verses of Scripture an interpretation dictated by some pre-formed system of theology. We all do well to heed its exhortation." Dr. David Gooding, Belfast

If I haven't said it before, GET THIS BOOK.
