Not huge, but we do alright for ourselves. there are afew different Independent Catholic Churches who share the 'dutch touch' if you add us all together then we have a decent sized church.

I am aware of this Church and have in fact "spoken" with their Presiding Bishop on a number of occasions, he is a very nice man.

Yes, that would be Bishop Paul. I've also had some contact with the Bishop in Brisbane too (I am in QLD myself).

heya MichaelNZ.

yeah I did return to Orthodoxy briefly. mostly cause old habits die hard. sometime I feel nostalgic of the religion of my family. now I've managed to keep those feelings under control

I returned to Old Catholicism and Anglicanism (as I attend an Anglican church alot) cause at the end of the day as much as I love my former faith I felt is was bogged down in Ancient politics and unwilling to really engage the society we live in.

I do also believe there is an undercurrent of mysogney within the EO church (though nowhere near as bad as in the RCC) which doesn't impress me. The continual rejection of women clergy for the foreseeable future is one factor. Now I realize people make the claim that their rejection of WO is not misogyny but based on scriptural reason....Im sorry but I don't buy it!!! The ordination of women to the deaconate which happens in orthodoxy is in contrast to the literal translation of Epistles. I see no reason why the Church who can make women deacons can not make women priests. To me it's a sign the church just wants to make her an all-boys club (women allowed in the pews and to do church cleaning are the exception of course)

Its my opinion that despite the disputes within Old Catholicism and in particular Anglicanism, these communions make the most sense, They are rooted in the past but not limited and held down 2 it.

As a Christian I want to take the good and right things from the past but I want to look forward and I dont see Orthodoxy as a church of the future...sure she will always be around maintaining what she has...but I feel she really doesn't engage with social issues, and to me Christ would!

I also decided to go back to Orthodoxy a while ago(although I was never received into the Orthodox Church but only became a catechumen years ago). At the time I'd gotten involved with an Independent Fundamental Baptist church. I attended the local Antiochian church (which is the only EO church in Dunedin) for a while. I also attended the local Coptic Orthodox church for a couple of weeks before I realised that I couldn't grow spiritually in such a place (mainly because the priest didn't speak English very well). I didn't get much out of the Eastern Orthodox Divine Liturgy and just before Christmas I started going back to my local Anglican church (which is just round the road from me). The former vicar of that church has converted to Orthodoxy and is now the parish priest at the local Antiochian church.

I probably wouldn't agree with everything the NZ Anglican church teaches (I don't know if they support abortion which I believe 100% is wrong, but I think they at least accept homosexuality which Scripture teaches is wrong). I'd probably feel more home in a Continuing Anglican church but there don't seem to be any here. Or any Old Catholic churches for that matter.

well we will have to disagree with the idea that Scripture teaches homosexuality is wrong...in english perhaps, in Konie Greek it's abit more complicated.

But you would find Old Catholics very liberal. Im with you on the Abortion issue though. however I think u will find most Old Catholics have actively gay priests and 'marry' or 'bless' gay r.ships....the one exception is there is an Old Catholic group in the states that does not..but they would be about the only Old Catholic Group that would oppose it.
