Matthew 24:34 - Last generation beginning in 1948?

Psalm 90:10 - The days of our life are 70-80 years, average being 75 - add 75 to 1948, we get 2023. (Rapture)

Genesis 12:4-5 - Abraham entered the promise land at 75; add that to 1948, again 2023. (Rapture)

Isaiah 60:1 - Beginning of the Latter Day Church (1903) - The Church of God of Prophecy.

It took Noah 120 years to build the Ark; the Ark is a type and shadow of the Church. Add 120 years to 1903 - this would be 2023. (Rapture)

Matthew 24:37 - "But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be." (Rapture)

1 Thessalonians 5:4 - But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief. (Rapture)

1 Thessalonians 4:17 - Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. (Rapture)

It makes a lot of sense to believe or say we will not know the day nor the hour as to the Lord's return. However, we should know close to the year.

Predicting a date and being wrong was grounds for death in messiah's day (and before). A generation is also 40 years but I will throw two things out to consider. One... the nation state of Israel is important prophetically, but it represents the Jews (prophetically Judah) and is a SECULAR nation. The Matthew verse is speaking about an awakening... new leaves and shoots coming out of a tree that looked dead, asleep. I believe this is something entirely different than Israel becoming a nation in 1948. And... by the way, the Jews are not all of Israel and the fig tree parable is speaking about ALL of Israel.

As an aside... a very little known biblical fact.... Abraham was born in 1948. It's true... go back to Adam and start counting how old people were when their offspring were born. Adam was born in 1948... one thousand nine hundred and forty eight years after Adam begins the count of years in his life.

I don't even bother with worrying about this. Christians should always live as though Christ could return tomorrow (because He could!). We cannot know and will not know precisely when He is coming, so we should not worry about such things. Christians in almost every generation have believed they were experiencing the end times or coming very close. Christ will come. Let us be ready whenever that may be.

Jesus NEVER gives us a hint with a "generation" for us to figure out with our calendar, whether it will be 40, 70, 75 years, etc. Stop it!

The generation that Christ talked about in Matthew 24:34 has NOTHING to do with 70AD, the birth of modern Israel, or even so-called 7 years tribulation. It has to do with the generation of evil that existed since Cain, to Christ's days, to us today. It won't end until all things are fulfilled.

An honest Christian can read more about it here The Generation of Matthew 24

Luke 16:8
  • "And the lord commended the unjust steward, because he had done wisely: for the children of this world are in their generation wiser than the children of light."
Again, this is the exact same word [genea] that is found in Matthew chapter 24. It speaks of the wicked in their generation or family being wiser than the children of light. In other words, it's illustrating that in certain ways, the seed or children of God are not as smart as the seed or children of the Devil. So it's impossible that this word [genea] as used here, refers to a literal person's life span or generation as the word is understood by many. Comparing Scripture with Scripture, it would be ludicrous for anyone to insist that the word generation always meant a present or contemporary generation of people in these passages, considering all the pertinent Scriptures that use the word. Yet there are many that choose to make such untenable arguments. Nevertheless:

Number one: While some make the claim that the end of the age was in 70 AD, there is not one single Scripture that supports that conclusion, and many Scriptures that preclude it. There was instituted a new dispensation (age) when Christ died, was resurrected, and sent His holy Spirit that the church go forth to witness with power. But there was no new dispensation or age instituted years later in 70 AD.

Number two: There is nothing in Scripture that declares that the word translated generation must always be understood to mean the contemporary people or their time period, and plenty of Scriptures that precludes it (as I've clearly shown).

Number three: There is abundant proof texts in Scripture that the entire New Testament period was (and still is) the end times, the last days, and the last age, indicating that there would not be any other age following this one. Except of course, "the age to come," which is Christ's return and consummation of eternal life. That is when all will be fulfilled as required by Matthew 24, and indeed by all of Scripture. That is when this evil generation shall finally pass away and when the kingdom will be delivered up to the father. This will occur at 'The last Day.'

Revelation 6:11

  • "And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled."
When will all be fulfilled? It is when this evil generation is no longer ruling with their prince. In other words, when Christ returns. For there is this age, the age to come, and no age in between. That's the whole purpose of God using the term "last days" to signify that there are no more days after these New Testament days. There are no more dispensations. Not even 1,000 physical years of millennial kingdom as most supposed. It is self evident that contrary to interpretive license, the age of the last days was instituted by the death and resurrection of Christ, not in 70 AD. No matter what any theologian (Reformed or otherwise) may postulate, Scripture must interpret Scripture. And the age to come is at the end of this age when Christ returns. The generation that will not pass till all be fulfilled is the generation that the entire chapter of Matthew 24 so vividly warned the church against. In context, it was the coming false prophets, false teachers, deceivers, false Christs, abominations, great tribulation, and all that this evil family would bring forth against Christ. Though it will not pass until Christ's return, yet the kingdom ultimately triumphs. It is then, and only then, that 'all' will be fulfilled as required by Christ's prophesy. Then and only then will this evil and adulterous generation/family pass. Selah!

The Greek word genea used for "generation" here can also mean nation or race, and I believe that would be more applicable.

Thayer's Greek Lexicon
STRONGS NT 1074: γενεά

γενεά, γενεάς, ἡ (ΓΑΝΩ, γίνομαι (crf.Curtius, p. 610)); the Sept. often for דּור; in Greek writings from Homer down;

3. the whole multitude of men living at the same time: Matthew 24:34; Mark 13:30; Luke 1:48 (πᾶσαιαἱ γενεαί); ; Philippians 2:15; used especially of the Jewish race living at one and the same period: Matthew 11:16; Matthew 12:39, 41f, 45; Matthew 16:4;Matthew 23:36; Mark 8:12, 38; Luke 11:29f, 32, 50;Luke 17:25; Acts 13:36; Hebrews 3:10;

The Jews were scattered throughout the world in 70 AD. A small number returned to Palestine in 1948 and established the nation-state of Israel, and since then many more have returned. But there are still Jews all over the world who will be brought to Israel by Christ after His second coming. Then all things will begin to be fulfilled, beginning with the Millenium and ending with the New Heavens and the New Earth.

As to date-setting, that is not given to Christians.

And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.
(Acts 1:7)

Mat_24:36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

Gal 6:15 Certainly, it doesn't matter whether a person is circumcised or not. Rather, what matters is being a new creation.
Gal 6:16 Peace and mercy will come to rest on all those who conform to this principle. They are the Israel of God.

Predicting a date and being wrong was grounds for death in messiah's day
Under the new covenant we are told that those who are without sin can throw the first stone. If in 1923 his prediction proves to be wrong, then will you be qualified to throw the first stone?

I am going to make a prediction. In the year 2029 the Church age will come to an end. We know that the Kingdom age follows the church age. Now there are people that say between the church age and the Kingdom age is a rapture and a tribulation period. Could be but maybe not. Still I believe the Bible teaches the Church age is 2,000 years. Then on the beginning of the third day Jesus was raised from the dead and the victory over death was won. Luke 13:32 ""Go tell that fox, 'I will keep on driving out demons and healing people today and tomorrow, and on the third day I will reach my goal.'"

Just see what will happen to Israel when the 70 years is passed on 14th May 2018.
The 70 years is passed on 14th May 2018 ...nothing out of the ordinary have happened to Israel... No one around the World have been raptured to Heaven...The Antichrist is not around ....Jesus have still not returned on Earth.

Answ: Matt. 25:13..........
"Watch therefore for ye now neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son iof Man cometh".

This verse refers to the Coming of the Son of Man, the Messiah, to establish His Kingdom. The moment Jesus told this to His disciples, the church was still unknown and not founded yet. The disciples asked Him about the time the Kingdom will be established.
The Kingdom will come at the very end of Daniels 70th week so knowing neither the day nor the hour should be taken litteraly (believers in the tribulation can calculate the end (the year, the month and the week) from the beginning).

The Rapture will occur before the coming 7-year period of tribulation and with its clearly predicted signs (acc. to my understanding: the rapture, preceded by the revelation of the antichrist).

Pentecost 31 -- The birth of the Church
The Church Age -- 1989 years (13x 153)
Pentecost 2020 (late May / early June) -- The Rapture of the Church

Daniels 70th week will start around Rosh Hashanah 2020 (late Sept / early Oct).
So, the Rapture of the Church will occur 4 months prior to the beginning of Daniels 70th week (the tribulation period).

Pesach 31 (late March / early April) -- Christ died for our sins
1989 years (153x 13) after the crusifiction of Jesus, the antichrist will come on the scene
13 is the number of 'sin'.
Pesach 2020 (late March / early April) -- The rise of the antichrist (2 months prior to the Rapture)

My expectation is that the 'son of perdition', 'the lawless one', the antichrist (Obama), will reveal himself 2 months prior to the moment of the rapture.
To be more precise, halfway the Jewish year, late March/early April 2020, 6022.5 years from creation, after doing the math, a multiple of 73 years counted from creation.

1940 WW II -- the 5913th year counted after man sinned: Hitler revealed as a type of the antichrist
5913 = 81 x 73

The number of the godhead is 37.
The number of the Anti-godhead is 73 (!!)

However, the apostel Paul teaches the same: prior to the rapture, the revelation of the antichrist will take place.

2 Thessalonians 2:
1 Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him,
2 That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ (wich starts with the rapture) is at hand.
3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day (that is: the day of Christ wich begins with the rapture) shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

Its clear: 'the day of Christ' begins with the rapture.
More recent translation have: 'the day of the Lord' but thats not what we read in the Greek text.
'The day of the Lord' is not something to look forward and differs totally from 'the day of Christ' (our blessed hope).

God bless & Shalom !!

The interpretation you are suggesting renders the parable of the fig tree - meaningless.

The parable of the fig addresses the "when" question the disciples originally asked.

The fig tree in the parable is Jerusalem, represented by the fig tree dying beside the road, that Jesus cursed.. That generation missed out on the Kingdom of God, but it would be given another nation, another generation of Jerusalem.

Jerusalem is in the news everyday, and came back into the hands of the Jews in 1967. It is still in its tender state. Summer is near, an idiom for saying the prophecies regarding the 70th week are about to be fulfilled.

The length of a generation is 70 years. Psalms 90. David lived to be 70. 70 weeks of Daniel. 70th week of Daniel.

1967+70=2037. 2037-7= 2030. not later than, it is reasonable that the 70th week begins before then.

Matthew 24:34 - Last generation beginning in 1948?
Psalm 90:10 - The days of our life are 70-80 years, average being 75 - add 75 to 1948, we get 2023. (Rapture) ...

You're not too far off, but you mistake the consequence of the end the Psalms 90:10 seventy years (not 75).

First of all the Rev. 20 "dead" arise after the end of the Millennial Reign, and then those who are alive and remain on earth shall ascend to the New Jerusalem in the air. Otherwise they'd remain on the earth, -- which passes away.

Secondly, the end of the 1948 + 70 = 2018 is the start of the 42 month Tribulation (Ref. Rev. 13:5), in which Trump crossed over the "threshold" by recognizing Jerusalem as the Capital of Israel.

And finally, if you consider the Prophetic Psalms concept as proposed by J.R. Church in his book "Hidden Prophecies In The Psalms", one could validate the statistical significance of 2018, where Psalms 117 is the SHORTEST and MIDDLE CHAPTER in all Scripture, and Psalms 118 is bracketed between Psalms 119 which is the LONGEST CHAPTER in all Scripture.

GOOD Work, with a little adjustment!
