  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

These kinds of videos are part of progressive endeavors are they not? Are you saying it's change you don't believe in?

We got here somehow?

"Videos" - you mean (video) games?

Given that most publishers in the West have pulled this game from their shelves, online or otherwise, I would say this defeats your attempt to make a jibe at "progressive endeavours" - apart from the fact that it was a total nonsequitur (nothing to do with viewpoint, and another country entirely).

Nonsequitor?

This video was brought to fruition by people with a set of values they obtained from current morality. Last time I looked, Japanese video games are ubiquitous in the West.

Not all Japanese video games make the trip across the ocean. Some of the major, major cultural differences don't translate too well. Study, PC_F, study.

As we've already established, values in Japan are quite different to values in the US/west, or at the very least, what's tolerated in the realms of sexual expression is quite different. Frankly there's a lot wrong with both "value" systems, but linking Japanese rape games that most people here on CF and elsewhere have largely stated their opposition to (and have mercifully been removed from most decent shops) to a Barack Obama jibe is pretty nonsensical.

And yes, Japanese video games are ubiquitous in the West. Japanese video games about rape are thankfully NOT ubiquitous in the West, a small but subtle difference (I'm sure it was an honest mistake :) ), and good thing too, eh? ;)

I dunno dude, I mean, it MUST be Obama's fault SOMEHOW...
Well the really funny part is it was released back in 2006 so I guess if we are blaming U.S. Pres. for japanese video game which still seems stupid to me it would have to be Bush.

Hentai Games are seriously messed up. Seriously.

I used to do the...oy vey...the virtual Paper Dolls...whatever they're called. I found some SERIOUSLY messed up adult ones. I mean, these were disturbing by my standards.

However, as has been emphasized before, gamers see past the ethics to the mechanics. I'm not bedding ever girl I can in The Witcher because of the blurry sex scene, but because you collect cards for a quest and get extra experience for doing so. I've also yet to try Group Style Steel against my mom's pack of barghests (okay, one lab, one pomeranian, and one chihuahua), nor am I using vodka as a base to mix up some Tawny Owl during my evening meditation for additional endurance during the day.

However, I have stopped dying my hair, so in a couple years I'll have the long, white locks of the White Wolf. :D

The majority of Japanese video games don't make it over here.

Ever wonder where the idea that Japanese games are better than American games came from? It's because most boring Japanese games aren't even considered for localization.

I did not mean to suggest otherwise. :)

A "rape" simulator game.

Why is it that anyone would think that would sell enough to make a profit on?
Good question.

History has shown the opposite. Custer's Revenge sold 80,000 cartridges due to focused media attention. In comparison, a contemporary of Custer's Revenge, E.T., is critically considered one of the worst games of all time and was made in 5 weeks. E.T. sold 1.5 million of the 4 million published cartridges and cost Atari millions.

I agree with you partialy media attention can boost sales just from pure curosity of is controversial as bad as they say it worked for Manhunt 2. But with this it's a little different were Japanese porn video game which made by company that only makes japanese porn video games I'll be the first to admit I know pretty much nothing about these sorts of games or what there target would like.

It must work in Japan. You need to take your issues with this game up with the Japanese and not the boogeymen you have created for every social ill.

I think it's really funny that so many people don't see the connection between what a society sees as entertaining and what a society does in real life and that culture can tell us a lot about a society. Funny because it's funny to think of so many usually sane, intelligent people be so ignorant about the connection between culture and society.

It is just a game, but it's a particulary violent, brutal game with very personal details. It's not like a book or movie or TV show about rape that makes a person really think about the subject. It's a game that makes rape a fun and entertaining activity. Plus, as can be seen by posts in this thead, it allows rape to be considred "funny". I doubt it will encourage anyone to actually go and rape people but it does say something when people find rape something fun to do in their free time.

If you had ever been to Japan you would more fully understand why it exists, yes it is repugnant but it should not be banned.
