• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi. I posted here before, and you guys really helped me a lot. More then I thought you would, thank you so much for that.

The two year anniversary of the day my ex-boyfriend first raped me is coming up, on the 20th. Last year I started getting really bad night terrors about it, reliving some of the times raped me in my dreams. For a while they went away and last night was the first night I've had one in several months. Last night I had been tossing and turning to such an extent that I threw myself off my bed before I woke up, and I have a queen-sized bed. Does anybody else have dreams like that? If so, how do you deal with them? Do they ever go away?

thanks.

I don't know if the dreams ever go away forever. Eventually they become less frequent. One thing that helps me is to keep myself busy that day. I make plans with a friend I feel comfortable being with, but also feel comfortable telling what happened. I make sure they understand I may be in a horrible mood that day. What will make you feel best that day? If it is being with a friend all day, then make plans. If spending the day going to movie after movie is what will help, then do that.

Lots of prayer of course. And perhaps sleeping with a stuffed animal and if you're up to it you can try Imagery Rehearsal Therapy.

IRT's where you write out a nightmare in as much detail as you can manage, then rewrite it again, keeping it as close to the original dream but change it somehow to make it peaceful. Then when you go to bed go over the rewritten dream in your head as close as you can to actually falling asleep and do some relaxation exercise like deep breathing. I understand that a night terror reliving something that actually happened is a bit harder than just any nightmare and can trigger flashbacks, but from what I've read it can really help.
