Yes, and throwing oneself in front of a bus is sooooo comparable to liking rap music ;) Sorry if I don't buy the analogy :)
Im sorry, new rap is just one genre of music that I cannot stand. 70's rap was at least funny and entertaining. Glorifying violence and crime and living in a ghetto I just do not understand.

 I cannot abide rap. That type of "music" annoys me to no end. What is even worse are the people that play it in their cars with the massive stereo systems. I really do not want to feel your music in my steering wheel. :sigh:

You're probably listening to 50 cent and Eminem and all that stuff that is played on the radio. Only stupid people like that "I'ma shoot 'cho momma ****** and ****** yo ***************************** while **********" etc. stuff. That is not real rap.

That stuff is called "gangsta rap". There's a big difference...

I realize that, my brother collects 70's rap. I just don't care for it. Dont like hip hop as well. I much prefer funk & soul myself.

You could ask that about any kind of music. What's so special about.....

Rock
Classical
Opera
Jazz
Country

And so on... different styles of music are for different people :)

I, personally, love rap... CHRISTIAN rap (like Cross Movement, GRITS, and so on). But I also love operas, jazz, classical, contemporary, and so on :)

So just because YOU don't like it and don't think there's anything special about it doesn't mean it isn't special to someone else :)

And I absolutely hate Blink 182 and a Simple Plan, so I'll write off rock music as a genre. Come to think of it, I really don't like Kenny G at all-- jazz sucks. You know what, Toby Keith is a real idiot; I'm writing of all country music.

See my point?

Great, another rap-hating thread.

Note to all haters: Your close-mindedness is highly evident.
Very not closed minded - have listened to a lot of rap, just doesnt float my boat. There is a lot of music I love, some I dont care for.

The messages of most mainstream rap ("b*tches and bling," thug life, violence...) is not cool and, in my opinion, is exactly what hip hop was originally opposed to. This type of rap is awful. However, there is a vast underground movement of hip hop that is in opposition to the mainstream. It is intelligent, personal, and meaningful. This is the type of rap that I enjoy.

I agree. And this rap is not helping the struggle of blacks in America. It glorifies violence, sex, drugs and money. There is no sense of humility. Education is not encouraged at all. "Get rich, it doesn't matter how, then you can be like me and do whatever you want" is the main message. Its horrible.

Name some artists, I'd like to hear them. More rap like this is needed.
One reason why I consider Tupac the best rapper of all time is that he actually talked about social issues that need fixing, about the cycle of violence, and there was so much passion in his music. It wasnt all about drugs sex and money. Tupac can be rough but I also find him "intelligent, personal and meaningful" at times.

Mainstream music of a lot of music styles is bad including rap. But "good" music is an opinion anyway. if you really want to form an educated opinion about music, go beyond what you hear on the radio.

Why not try these for a dose of good rap:
Outkast
Mars Ill
Aesop Rock
Brother Ali
Atmosphere
Nas

You need more just tell me. I got a ton. those are just the best underground and good mainstream rappers I can think of right of the top of my head.

To quote Andre3000 (the actual rapper, not the CF member):

"She said she thought Hip Hop was only guns and alcohol
I said "Oh hell naw!" but yet it's that too
You can't discrimihate because you done read a book or two"
(from "Humble Mumble" from 2000's Stankonia)

I love hip hop so much that I have a tshirt that says so. It's so great.
