  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Hey, now that you mention it, I was just beginning to watch this series not too long ago. I'm on episode 5 or 6 so far, some of it's actually pretty funny! If you've seen Ramna 1/2 all the way through, I'm wondering, is it particularly good? Does action pick up since the first few episodes? It feels like I'm watching more of a romantic comedy than something more action-oriented like the later InuYasha series by the same creators.

No, its not so much of an action anime, its more of a romance that is dragged out by comedy, which explains it's unusual length for a harem-romance anime. It just happens to have action in it for sh*ts and giggles.

Ranma 1/2 is more like Urusei Yatsura than Inuyasha. That is to say, it's a bunch of stupid stuff that happens and hopefully is funny. I enjoyed the manga quite a bit, the anime less so. I liked the one chapter stories in Ranma which never would have worked in anime, and wasn't particularly impressed with the anime filler (which often seemed to think that Ranma turning into a girl was a joke in and of itself, even when we've already seen that happen a hundred times.) The best humor in Ranma 1/2 comes from its over the top displays of martial arts, so it's a shame when the series steps away from that or tries to play the action in a more serious manner.

Yeah, even though I didn't mention it, that's what I thought it reminded me more of. I've only seen, like Ramna 1/2, only five or six of the Urusei Yatsura episodes. I'm kind of taking both series slowly, really. When it comes to anime, I normally procrastinate. I'm even trying to watch Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood at the time same. I already finished Cowboy Bebop, most of Lupin the 3rd (some episodes/movies are hard to see or get), FLCL, Paranoia Agent, and InuYasha.

One at a time man! Don't overstuff yourself, you'll get a tummy ache!

FLCL was odd, yet amazing to me I must admit. FMA is always a given for its greatness as well as Cowboy Bebop being a classic. Anybody seen Legend of the Galactic Heroes and Code Geass?

Ranma ½ is still a favorite after all these years. Even the special from 2010 was nostalgic. Unfortunately, it's been stalled in both my manga and anime queue for about 7 years, but prior to that was enough to have the first 5 volumes and 1st, 2nd, and 6th DVD box sets.

Re: viewing patterns, I tend to balance several at a time, depending on the circumstances. The balancing act is sort of necessary for some series since I follow them weekly. Other times I marathon a single series and hardly intersperse anything else with it. Sometimes this can be awesome for the viewing impact (such as with Toradora!), and in other cases it feels like getting teeth pulled. It's those latter ones I procrastinate the hardest over.

It's interesting for about the first couple seasons. After that It's all the same, there's no real progress, and it just drags on. There's a fair amount of fighting, the likes of dragonball, especially in the early seasons. Constant "baptism" between states suggests a hint of profound truth ?!?!?!?!
