In our parish, each mass has its own "flavor".
I can't say about the Saturday evening mass, as I have only attended Sat. evening mass twice in 4 years. The 7 a.m. Sunday mass is very quiet and contemplative, no singing at all. My DH prefers this mass (it is usually full of older and middle-aged people). The 8 a.m. mass is traditional (singing, prayers, etc.), but a tad quieter than following masses (9:30, 11, 12:30, 5:30, and 7) as there aren't many children there (mostly middle-aged and singles). The 9:30 is bustling, to say the least. It and the 11 are the ones with the most children, as CCD tends to fall conveniently in between the 2. Participation in singing isn't the greatest. At the 11, the choir sings - and singing tends to be better than the other morning masses. It is a traditional choir, though, nothing fancy. The 12:30 has a lot of younger people with no children there (can sleep in really late and still make it to mass!). I've only been once, so that's about all I can say about it. My favorite mass (not time, just "flavor") is the 5:30 youth mass. It is really vibrant. The youth choir sings. We don't typically sing the traditional songs, and people raise their hands in praise during the hymns, if they feel like it, or they clap. Msgr. likes this one, and I've noticed he likes attending it, even if he isn't presiding (I've seen him sneak in the back). You'd probably love that one too, Jason. Now, the 7 is the Hispanic mass. I've never been, but I can only imagine that it is a traditional Mexican-flavored mass. We have a really large population of Hispanics, and our parish is one of the few to reach out to Hispanic Catholics.
