OK Theo, (everybody else can skip the rest of this post or risk terminal boredom)

You remember my old username? It was my initials. That number is the base 10 equivalent of a base 27 number.

Of course, the space to the left of the decimal point is the one's (units). Using the English alphabet to represent the base 27 numerals, G = 7 in base 10. (A = 1, B = 2, etc.) G = 7*1 = 7

The next space left in base 27 is the 27's. K = 11, so KG = 11*27 + 7*1 = 297 + 7 = 304.

Next is 27*27 or the 729's. A=1, so AKG = 1*729 + 11*27 + 7*1 =729 + 297 + 7 = 1033.

I'll let you finish it off yourself. :thumbsup:

Since A[SUB][16][/SUB] = 10[SUB][10][/SUB], wouldn't it make sense that A[SUB][36][/SUB] = 10[SUB][10][/SUB] also? If you use base 36 instead of base 27 then,

JAKG[SUB][36][/SUB] = 900160[SUB][10][/SUB]
THEO[SUB][36][/SUB] = 1375584[SUB][10][/SUB]
THEOFILUS=[SUB][36][/SUB] = 83176330309156[SUB][10][/SUB]

Of course, you get more reasonable numbers (especially for long names like Theofilus) if you use a Hebrew-like numbering system where A=1 and Z=800. In that system THEOFILUS = 718, which is:

1011001110[SUB][2][/SUB]
1316[SUB][8][/SUB]
2AE[SUB][16][/SUB]

If anybody wants to calculate their number, I've set up a spread sheet that will do it.

It's base 27 because there are 26 letters. The space is the zero value. Punctuation is ignored. Thus, any text of any length can be calculated to a unique numerical value and rendered back into english by transferring it back into base 27.

Yes... that does make sense to use " " as 0 since it is basically nothing.

Thanks!

If you think that's strong, you should see what my coffee does to people.
