One good song of theirs: Du Hast. Don't trust their english version... the translation of the german song is much better.

Yeah, don't trust Engel's english version either. That one's even more horribly altered. They aren't really true translations...the only reason they're like that is to be able to keep the same pace in English as it has in German. They are very much English versions, not English translations.

Nothing wrong with that song... yet everyone thinks about hatred... it's just a play on words because "Hassen (hast)" does mean hate... but the "du hasst mich gefragt" is a form of "Haben"... literally it means "you have me asked"... just german word order for "you asked me" ... they just have the "you hate" part because germans like playing with words... and the change from "du hast mich" and "du hasst mich gefragt" is significant.

hhhhhuuuuH? I've never heard anything affiliating them with the nazi party? I'm not fluent, but I've also never heard them say anything nazi-esque... why for you say them nazi? If they were, they could never go to germany... When I was there, the first thing I was told is "don't mention anything about nazis.... you will get beaten severly".... just about every teen I visited had an anti-nazi scarf or two around... I can't imagine they'd do well over there if they were nazi.

d'oh... I switched them around, didn't I... wasn't paying attention. But check out the lyrics closely... up until they use the word "gefragt" they use the form of hassen (ß doesn't show up on some people's computers, so I use the 'ss' since it's easier for americans to understand).

it's another one of those completely wrong stereotypes that all Germans are Nazis, it was also supposedly because people thought the cover of Herzeleid was supposed to look like a group of the master race.

I have, and all the ones up to 'gefragt' are 'hast', unless Herzeleid.com is using a misspelling (which I severely, severely doubt; it's been a while since I've looked at Sehnsucht's CD booklet, considering I don't own a copy, but I do seem to remember it having only 'hast'). Yes, they were interchangable officially, at least until the late 90s. There were spelling reforms introduced then and the ß was one of the things to get the axe. There were apparently some compromises made a couple years ago and the ß can occasionally be used now, but it can't be taught as an alternative for every -ss that occurs anymore (if it ever did; I'm not completely sure on that). The year I started taking German was the year before the seven-year adjustment period began, so we were taught using the old grammatical rules. I guess for consistency issues it wasn't required that we suddenly switch (and then in High School it became sort of a non-issue since the teachers excused it).

And it would have to be a pretty old computer or very strange keyboard to not take those characters, considering you either have the Ctrl command-style for American keyboards or the Alt+ commands/Character Map, depending on what operating system you're running and the configuration it has. As far as for making it easier for Americans to understand it, I really don't see the difference between the umlauted characters and adding an -e, since they probably won't have a clue how to pronounce it anyway (heck, I still have problems with distinguishing my ü's from u's, and it's been 8 years; adding e's to normal vowels just made it more confusing to try to pronounce).

Anyone see the Rosenrot video yet? A bit too violent to show to some of my friends without worrying it will chase them away from a truly wonderful band, but I really like the song! I hope they keep basing songs off of Goethe. He was an awesome writer, and Dalai Llama and Rosenrot were both pretty good. Rosenrot more than DL, though... I gotta admit.

How is Rosenrot as a CD? I am definately considering getting it soon, but I am not really 100% sure. Should I get it, or look into Megaherz or Eisbrecher, you think? I already have Mutter, Sehnsucht and Reise Reise, and I only like a couple songs from Herzelied, so I won't be getting it...

But yes, in general, Rammstein is a very good band. Being homeschooled, I have the freedom to listen to them while doing my German course, which helps me process words and vocabulary better(I actually passed a test once only because I could remember words from Rammstein songs!). Their musical style is also pretty darn good, even if all of their songs seem to be composed in the exact same format. Chant, sing chorus, chant, chant more, sing chorus longer, chant, sing chorus , sing it one or two more times. Sometimes there will be a bridge or something in there(like in Zwitter. FRIKIN AWESOME SONG!!!), but... yeah. OTherwise, I love Till's voice, the guitars sound really good, and the music itself I find to be very invigorating and powerful. I don't like some of the dirtier lyrics, but atleast its in German, so I actually only remember what its saying if I sit and concentrate on the words for songs like Rein Raus, Zwitter, Keine Lust, etc.

i am an 'oldster' but over 20 years ago we were at the cutting edge of christian heavy metal music. i was refreshed to find that Rammstein is so acceptable to diserning listeners. They are everything a heavy band should be and more. The music certainly gets down to it and i love it because i am 'totally addicted to base' and you can't get much bassier than those vocals. KEEP ROCKIN' RAMMSTEIN!!!!!!

Yes the song´s called Rammstein. I respect your opinion but to look in to the lyrics its almost required to think in several dimensions, and not just a read off...... and oh, man are they hawt I have seen them twice and hopefully once more within the next two years
