Rainbows

This was taken in Maui. If you notice there are actually two rainbows.

How many others have photos of rainbows?

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. Actually it actually is called an Ercoupe. You had it close, just one too many "r's". A Citabria (easiest way to remember spelling is that it is "Airbatic" backawards as it is made for beginning aerobatic training) is a similar size but the wing is on the top and is a tail dragger.... very similar to the Piper Cub.

I only have one rainbow image from years ago. I never really thought about snapping pics of rainbows.

This airplane is called a Beaver. Boy did we have some incredible weather that day!

All of the rainbow picture are lovely. When we had a rainbow last week I tried getting a picture, but by the time I got back outside it was gone. This thread has inspired to capture them!

Since I've only ever taken one picture of a rainbow before-- eons ago I don't even know where it is (... please God send some rain!!!!!!! ...) any tips?

Where should I meter at? Should I manually adjust the shutter to hopefully get more saturation of the colors? Or... just snap and see what happens?

Thanks. I did play with those pictures a little in software since they looked a little blah (partly because I was not careful when I scanned them) -- mostly darkening the darker parts, but also giving them a touch more color saturation.

I think the main thing is to make sure you don't overexpose the sky/rainbow, which your camera might do if there is a lot of darker area in the photo. If you're shooting digital, just take a picture and see if the sky and rainbow look good (using the histogram, preferably). And don't forget to look at what else is in the picture. (I cropped two of those shots after scanning, since a tighter framing looked less cluttered.)

Sadly, all my rainbows as of late were seen through BUS windows as we careened around an island in Scotland...so I got shots, but none of them are very good...you can see the raindrops on the bus windows...
