Ragdoll Physics

Ok...for those of you who dont know, Ragdoll Physics is where a person in a game (usually dead) behaves like a rag-doll. Thier body can bend and twist in strange ways and the body basically acts like it has no bones.

Am I the only one that thinks that this kinda kills the realism of games? I mean your blazing along in a gun-battle...then all of a sudden some guy summersaults over a barrier and ends up with his foot up his rear because a grenade exploded behind him.

It just seems a little...unrealistic.

This is an example of ragdoll physics (Use your mouse to move her if she gets stuck)

I used to know this guy who was in Vietnam and (when he was drinking) he would tell about some of the things that happened and one was finding people in aweful, unnatural positions after mortar attacks, grenades, etc.

His million dollar wound was a broken hip/pelvis when a mortar blast threw him into a field of bamboo where he lay for several hours and when they found him the next morning, he was on his back with his right leg folded under him and his right foot sticking up next to his right ear. They saved the leg but he will limp badly for the rest of his life.

The ragdoll physics system, overall physics system in fact, in Half-Life 2 is unbelievably good. With the use of the gravity gun, you can have endless hours of enjoyment. Manipulating objects and people, stacking them on top of each other and then scattering them about. Ah great fun. :D

Obilivion will kick the poo out of every other game that is going to be released in 06, except maybe Unreal tournament 2006... I personally just finished The Elder Scroll's Morrowind, AWESOME game.

As far as it being unrealistic, I don't think so. As ForgivinSinner said, It's quite possible to do incredible (Yet awful) things with the creations that man has made (EX mortars). So, yeah.

Yeah, ragdoll physics arn't realistic, otherwise they'd just be called physics. Ragdoll physics are in place, however, to kinda...."spice up" the "reality". Normally in a game when someone goes down, it's the same death fall and plant. With ragdoll physics, however, they always go down differently. Also, ragdoll physics are damn fun to play with. :D

What's realism? It's a game. :p I get a kick out of seeing people in funny positions after a grenade.hehe

As for Oblivion..as some people have said..that game is ALL hype. Yes..it looks PRETTY..but since when do graphics make a game? From what I have seen and heard the gameplay isn't all that different from the previous games...which really weren't all that spectacular.
