  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

now i know some veiw them as "leading usa astray" b/c their new cd has issues such as rape, child molestation, porn and such things...and doesnt really have much praise to God

their older cds did..but then again not everything is as clear as we'd like..and does take some investigating...

just wondering who all likes them...i know i do ^_-

This is VERY graphic what I am getting ready to post but I want you to see what this bands newest cd has to say. This band does have an explanation and says that is uses shock rock to make a point to christians about issues not usually sung about. so taken in the right context these songs have a very powerful message. but i think there are better ways to give the message.
here are some clips:
*this song deals with the socal issues of how pron shops and such move into neighborhoods*
redlite deadlite
jack and jill they never listen to their father’s will
they stuffed their face with pie until they almost died mary mary little mrs. quite contrary
touchy feely in her bed with neighbor shari

*this song deals with the hidden sin of porn addiction*
sex doll
take a look at me my darling
do you like what you see?
i can be anybody that you
that you want me to be

i’m a sex doll come play with me my darling
when you turn out the lights
it can be our little secret
i won’t tell your wife
i’m a sex doll
touch me, everywhere
feel me, anywhere
*this song deals with materialism*
retail ****
wine me, dine me, buy me everything
drastic, plastic, i’m so pretty now
shiny diamonds are my gift today
golden idols, for those i’d spread my legs
lay me down in your bed
of jealousy
i am your retail ****
made in envy

*this song deals with the tough issues of incest and child molestation*
no place like hell +
(track 10)

daddy’s looking in mommy’s dresser
he is careful he doesn’t wake her
in the basement is naked sister
he masturbates while he takes her picture crying will only make things violent
like a good girl she keeps things silent
playtime’s over and off come his pants
now it’s time for the daily lap dance

But here is the problem ...none of these songs give reference in how to fix the problems. i ahev heard christian bands such as leper deal with these issues but tehy do it with a positive reflection.

here's my view point on the matter guys.

being an artist there are quite a few things that are labeled taboo material to touch on as a christian, simply because christians feel that to even address it is a sin.

I have delt with issues of rape and how it undermines a woman in at least one artwork i have done.

I do not feel any less of a christian because I did this.

I felt like I was doing something worth doing.

When no one else is willing to talk about it, someone will and of course they will be labeled as someone who has "strayed away"

This is ridiculous.

Simply because Rackets & Drapes wants to address issues of infidelity, pornography, and child molestation does not make them less of a christian band nor does it mean they are somehow personally less spiritual or not christians personally.

first of all im not going to judge their lyrics from what you posted cause its only partial, before i decide on them id have to read every song teh whole way through

that being said, there might not be a way to fix them in the song, maybe thats not what they are going for, they might just want to portray the life that some people live and to show people how sick it souds and that its really out there, most people go on with their lives not thinking about some of those sins, but they are real and they are bringing them forward, maybe not everyone can handle those pictures but they make me think ahrd about them and how disgusting they are, so id say they work pretty well, and if you dont like then dont listen to it (not meaning to be harsh there, just trying to be honest)

personally i dont think theyve crossed the line...they still have the faith..this i know from talking regularly with tim(kandi/frontman)..and alot of this i didnt find offensive b/c i have alot of friends who come to me with these problems and im very much used to it..but its still sickening to hear..like the other week my best friends mom was raped and murdered...and yeah i suppose there could be more messages of hope in there but i think their main message was to get it out there and show u its there...now i know they dont hold back messages of hope if u heard their first and their second had like a 20 min sermon at the end..but im sure theyre not loosing the faith...ive talked to kandi and with all the things going on in his life health wise hes still right their trusting God and knowing he'll get through...

and i also know ppl didnt even consider looking into it b/c it has a parental advisory sticker on the front..but i mean its in best interest that some stuff isnt good for smaller children...but b/c theyre christian and a child couldnt listen to it doesnt mean its loosing faith..simply showing problems that r real and that even christians should have knowledge of them

all in all i dont see nething wrong with the new cd or that its "way" out there..it maybe b/c its not been done so much at all if any

yeah i dont think RnD ever was going towards teh childrens ministry ;)

but as long as they are focusing on God's plan for them i'll support them fully cause if youve read some of the things in the Bible, would you tell those stories to your children? 1 that comes to mind is the story of the angels going through the city of gilead(? i think), pfft cant find reference atm, but i will edit it in later, but theres lots rape, sodomy and other things in that story, very gruesome, but God put it in the Bible for a reason, so maybe RnD is just one of God's peculiar ways ^_^ who knows what God is up to

EDIT: mmk found one of the stories, not the angel, but judges 19 is a gruesome story, pretty juicy so read it :p...andandand just found the other one in Gen 19 is the angel story in Sodom and Gomorrah

ahhhh judges full of stories that "good christians" would never watch on tv nor movies.

^_^

o_O i am still trying to figure out what so many people in christianity have against Song of Solomon.

Sure rackets and drapes could sing songs that were more palatable to the christian market and everything would be happy and nice in the self-contained "christian music box"

but then they wouldn't be making the music they obviously have a deep passion about making.

These are real issues that should and need to be touched on.

and if they wanna approach it from a narrative approach instead of a blunt CCM "molestation is bad, god loves you" way then power to em.
