• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

RACISM? No, it is not.

what exactly is 'white culture'? I'm white. I also celebrate Polish traditions, but I don't know many people outside of my family who do so in America. Or should I not be allowed to observe my traditions? Next thing you'll say is that I'm not allowed to speak my native language.

As far as Christmas Trees go...I don't care. I'm used to it being called a Christmas tree. Do Chanukah (sp?) and Kwanzaa have a tree? If not, why call it a 'holiday tree' if doesn't have anything to do with the other holidays?

And again; they left their culture when they left their country. The indians that were here when the Europeans got here either adopted their lifestyle or stayed in their own culture. The country was sparsely populated and the indians could chose. Now the country is densely populated and the vast majority of the citizens have a different culture then the one left behind by the immigrants. Since they chose to move here, they obviously see the superiority of the American culture and MUST adopt it.

The Europeans who immigrated here brought their language their ideas their morals and their culture with them. they then forced Native Americans to try to "fit" into their culture.

so you're wrong, again.

and no they dont move here because they think the American culture is "superior". they move here for more oppurtunities...and something about "freedom of religion" and "freedom of speech" and so on appeals to them too. there really isnt an American culture. each person in America has culture from their background, so it varies.

my grandparents came to America for more oppurtunities. they still kept their culture but they added "american culture" to it making it a mix. Thanksgiving is interesting...we always have turkey etc but also all kinds of Central/South American food.

there isnt a "white culture". Each country in Europe has their own culture. so there is German culture, Polish culture, Irish culture, English culture, French culture...etc etc etc.

A can do, don't mess with us, we will succeed mindset. Our society is superior to what else is out there, as evidenced by the staggering number of legal immigrants and the nauseating number of illegal immigrants storming our borders every day, and we know it. We aren't shy about boasting about it either. Those who say we aren't the best are WRONG.

i think it's great that you are proud of your country, man, but don't you think you are being (more than) a little egotistical and....well....mean? i work summers teaching art at a "rich kid camp," where there is some of this kind of mindset. as i explained to the kids, no culture is superior. [sidenote--i didn't tell the kids this, but wasn't your stance also *Hitler's* stance?] they're just different.

Strangely enough, there are some Jews who do put up a tree during Chanukah...

P.S. There really is no wrong way to spell that holiday ;)

I realize the Church is multi-cultural, in that people from all manner of cultures are Christian and participate in the Life of Christ. But I don't think the Church expects all nations and peoples to be one bland mono-culture. I don't think it expects Canadians to erase all the things that make Canadian culture unique. I don't think the Church expects all mention of Christianity and Judeo-Christian ethics to be completley erased from all apsects of public life in the name of 'not offending' anyone who objects to the presence of Christianity in a particular country's culture.

When I have to read a lot etc. etc. punctuation makes it so much easier to read and understand a post. One of those post of yours was so badly composed I couldn't make out what you were trying to say. Why should you expect me to respond if you cannot make the effort?

please tell me what post it was then and I'll re clarify.

I'm running on very little sleep so that has something to do with it.
