interesting that many Caucasians don't realize that white privilege exists

It doesn't exist.

Wealth
privilege exists. Beauty privilege exists. But white privilege doesn't. Poor white people don't in fact have "privilege."

I think people are attuned to certain things

for example, since becoming a parent, am "more protective" of other kids and willing to speak up/get involved
it's not that didn't notice kids before and had even worked/volunteered with kids but parenting changed my outlook

my guess is your outlook has you more focused on certain things which validates your thinking; is that possible?
The way they largely seem to care so little about their children was one tiny thing I brought up because I felt that was probably the most detrimental to that segment of our population.

I would disagree with that.

For example there's the Open Policing Project at Stanford that finds that for all else being equal black drivers are more likely to be pulled over, more likely to receive a ticket, and more likely to be searched than white drivers.

That's what they mean by white privilege.

To answer one of your questions, Hank: You may be too young to remember this, but it dang near wrecked the economy around here for several years in the 70s, until we got rid of it.

(From the web)
"AFFIRMATIVE ACTION" is a governmentally required positive effort, beyond elimination of discrimination, to seek out and employ persons of groups that have been discriminated against. It is a requirement now imposed on all Federal contractors, which includes almost all employers.
I don't think those requirements have to be met by employers with less than a certain number of employees and it never required having to hire less qualified people. But I could be wrong.

I may be older than you, I'm soon to be 66.

White privilege is not being arrested for sitting quietly in Starbucks without having made a purchase while waiting for a business appointment.

You would have been about, what?, ten years old when that fiasco started?

What do you mean by "They", PK? White people?
(Sounds kinda stupid, doesn't it?)

Yes. Especially since I didn't say it.

'They' is black people?

Not a traffic ticket in MY state. I know the law in my state.
Regardless of the laws in YOUR state, the OP incident happened in Virginia, where one faces arrest for refusal to sign a traffic citation.

All the racism hoopla in this thread, has at it's starting point, a routine traffic stop, with a cop who acted professionally and respectfully towards the driver, who's only defense was - "I'm black!".

What does that have to do with MY post which simply made a statement about my state's laws?

What state would you be referring to?
There is more than one state where you don't have to sign a ticket. You can look it up. I don't choose to give out my location.
