When I was in highschool a friend of mine suggested I read this book called "The Dark Elf Trilogy" by R.A Salvatore. I wasn't much into sci-fi or fantasy, so I was a bit hesitant. But, my friend had good taste so I bought the book and read it.

Now the spine is broken and 20 pages fell out because I've read it so much.

This really was the book that introduced me to fantasy books. Drizzt DoUrden is such a great character and the storyline is just amazing. Any other fans out there?

I love the Legend of Drizzt series!

Have you read the others in the series? I own up to book 10... but have only ever read the first 5. That was a year or two ago....

I actually just started reading them again just last week, blitzed through the first book in no time, got so sucked in!

Great to find someone who loves Drizzt as much as I do! He's an amazing character... even the minor characters are so well developed. Such as poor Clacker, I loved him...

I have The Dark Elf Trilogy (Homeland, Sojourn, & Exile), The Icewind Dale Trilogy (The Crystal Shard, Streams of Silver, & The Halfling's Gem), Legacy of the Drow (The Legacy, Starless Night, Siege of Darkness, & Passage to Dawn), and The Paths of Darkness (The Silent Blade, The Spine of the World, Servant of the Shard, & Sea of Swords). I've read them all, more then once or twice, lol. I haven't gotten The Hunters Blade Trilogy or Transitions yet. Haven't had the money to buy them and the libraries around here don't have them. :( But I'm trying because I really love these books.

I think it depends on the actors and directors.

Judging from Drizzt fighting style I'd say the Directors of Crouching tiger hidden Dragon and House of flying Daggers.

Then for actors
Orlando Bloom (Legolas LOTR) as Drizzt
Kirsten Dunst (MJ Watson Spiderman) as Cattibrie
Elijah Wood (Frodo LOTR) as Regis aka Rumble Belly
Brock Lesnar (WWE) as Wulfgar (needs to grow his hair)
John Rhys Davies (Gimli LOTR) as Bruenor Battle Hammer ^_^

Oh good gracious, the movie would flop! ;)

I agree with you about the directors, but I disagree about the actors.

For actors:

Drizzt: Luke Goss (Prince Nuada in Hellboy 2, Nomak in Blade 2). He did an amazing job in Hellboy, with his look and his acting. I can see him as Drizzt.
Cattie-brie: Bryce Dallas Howard (Kate Conner in Terminator Salvation, Gwen Stacey Spiderman 3). She's a really good actress and I like her look.
Regis: Anton Yelchin. He was the first one who popped into my head when I thought of Regis, lol.
Bruenor and Wulfar:...hmmmm... I'll have to think about those 2 and get back to you...

I forgot about Luke Goss. He did do a fantastic Twin swords number in HB 2
as per Drizzt's style .

The Reason I thought of Orlando Bloom He acted his elf nature well in Lord of the Rings. (nimble, keen eyes etc...)

Wulfgar's actor has to be quite young and massively built with long blond hair.
Bruenor that is a tough one :)

He was fantastic in HB:2 and that's why he popped into my head. Orlando Bloom is really good (I heart LOTR, books and movies), but I think he's too pretty boyish for Drizzt. You need someone who looks a little more rugged, yet still elfish.

Maybe Michael Gambon (Dumbledoor from the Harry Potter movies) would be a good Bruenor. Ya know, someone who could be cranky and tough, but you still just want to hug him, lol.

Do you guys think a CG'd movie would be better?

It really depends on how they would do the CG. If it was done more in the style of Final Fantasy: Advent Children, then I think I would be awesome. But it would be a shame if they went too cartoony, making the characters look too unrealistic. But there are risks both way. If they ever decide to make a live action movie, then they need to look at our cast choices: then it would be fantastic ;)

And that, gentlemen, is why I'm a geek, lol.

True, Orlando is a bit boyish. If you read all of Drizzt's diary entries he is one who is mature and experienced.
Also Drizzt at certain times was prone to rage's, a part of him he called "the hunter"

I agree with CGI if FF quality. It would make racial traits a bit easier
eg: Drow elf eyes glowing red when in infrared spectrum

ps: Good to meet a fellow geek ^_^^_^^_^

I've read the few Drizzt books that are available at my library. I really liked them, but after a while, I kind of lost interest in them. I'm not really sure why. They're really well written, and I'm a HUGE D&D fan, but I guess it didn't really click with me. Maybe someday I'll go back to them.

When I was in college, I was eating breakfast in the cafteria with some friends and this one guy looks at me and says, "Is it true that you like Star Trek?" I said I did and he says, "I have to shake your hand. You are the first female geek I've ever met!"

Gah! I own every single one of the Drizzt books, except for the final Transitions books. I've read them so much that my copies all have wrinkled covers and broken spines.
Drizzt is my absolute favorite High Fantasy/Forgotten Realms character.

Personally I'm not a big fan of the Transitions series. I'm having a lot of trouble getting into the books the way I got into the earlier books, especially The Dark Elf Trilogy. I've read that trilogy at least 5 times...;)

Personally I would be all for a CG movie, I just can't think of any actors that could pull of the characters well. Then again, I've been surprised before (like Orlando Bloom as Legolas, i was expecting that to be a train wreck...), but if anyone casts Kirsten Dunst in a part I will die (of horror). Sorry, not a big fan.

I had the Dark Elf Trilogy in one book. I had about 10-15 pages fall out because I've read it so much! At least a dozen times. Which reminds me, I need to buy a new copy.

If you haven't seen Hellboy:2, check out Luke Goss in the link below. Compliations of his fighting styles and very, very awesome. (Yes, I know they most likely have someone else doing it, but he still really fits the role well, I think)

To Cynthia: I like Startrek a lot but I'm a bigger fan of Stargate

To Shirono: My Bad:sorry:. Thinking about K******* D**** (^_^) world be a bad choice.
Apart from bad acting, Cattibrie although slim has a tough warriors demeanor about her which K******* D**** (^_^) does not.

At the moment trying to read RA Salvador's war of the spider queen series. Have all the books but find them a bit too Dark and Gloomy

I, too, am a huge Drizzt fan and I'm workin on reading the last series right now. I'll just throw this out there. The comic series they are doing on him right now, (from DDP) is pretty amazing. The art is great and the story is very true to the books.

I actually saw them at Barnes and Noble and read the first one. I really liked it! I hope that it'll introduce a lot more people to the books because they are freaking amazing.
