after being on this site for a while and being a heard headed creationist myself (i am still a "creationist" but not as hard headed) i have come to a conclusion that Christians are not doing the thing they are supposed to be doing. We as Christians are supposed to be Preaching about Jesus not about "Creationism" . So to make the long story short.........................

Go and tell everyone about Jesus not about "Creationism" because Jesus is your life.

PK

PS. you dont have to answer to this. just think about it.

A lot of time does seem to get spent on the first few sentences in Genesis.

I think the general line of thinking (from skeptics) is if you can't trust the bible that it means what it says in the fist few sentences then how can you trust it for the next few thousand sentences. People completely miss the poetic nature of the creation account. The verse style and word use. We treat it as bottled water when we should be treating it as the finest wine.

I used to spend a lot of time in creation/evolution type threads on various forums. Then I found the bible is full of all kinds of things. You could spend a entire lifetime studying it and still find new stuff. Word use, writing style, context, getting in the authors head and putting OUR idea of what a verse is saying aside are the type of things you don't pick up in a general "fortune cookine" type reading of the bible.

Twisting and bending the straight forward reading of the opening paragraphs, as if somehow trying to fit a square ped into a round hole, isn't going to impress someone into believing in God. IMHO there are much deeper intellectually satisfying things to study in the bible, give me Ecclesiastes, Romans, John, or Job anyday.

Don't get me wrong, the creation account is important, but once you get past who is responsible for what, in the grand scheme of things the rest is a small matter. I figure I've got eternity to find answers to the how's and why's of Genesis. Now - lets go figure out what Solomon was trying to tell us in Ecclesiastes.

Jesus is the word of God: "And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us", (John 1:14) I believe we should teach and preach ALL of the Bible. We can not pick and choose one part over another. The Bible talks about creation, it even starts off with "In the beginning God created..." So are you suggesting that we should ignore this part of the Bible and not preach it or teach it to others?

Preaching WHAT about Jesus? That he was a good guy? I'm wondering what Preaching about Jesus means to you.

...Does it really matter if you don't accept the creationist's version of the opening chapter? As long as you believe in Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, isn't that all that counts?

well..

seeing as this is a Christian forum...

do Christians really think that we've not heard about Jesus before?

more to the point, does hearing about Jesus only count if it comes from some particular individual?

there is a difference between rejecting and ignorance, you know.

The problem with this statement is that it is presumptuous. Not everyone wants to be told about Jesus.
Telling people about Jesus instead of talking about creationism is a cop out. It assumes that the individual on the receiving end of the talking already accepts the belief that Jesus is our savior. If evangelists and missionaries gave a spiel on the tenets and probability of their beliefs instead of advertising its benefits to the individual like a used car salesman would, the results of their prosetyletizing would have a completly different end result.
A bit harsh, but my point is that many people either do not believe in what you believe in (and are not interested in hearing about your beliefs), or they have heard the used-soul-salesmans' pitch many times before and it is a huge imposition to talk at them about Jesus.

all i am saying is that all of the Creationists are wasting their time trying to debate something that is irrelevant to their most important mission as Christian people.

I find this a perfectly acceptable position (with the proviso that you accept people's view on Jesus after you've preached).

If you don't mind an ex-christian helping you out . . . The Great Commission says nothing about preaching creationism to all the nations.
