This is to let members know that we will no longer allow any of the following type of quizzes:

1. Fake quizzes

Quizzes where the answer is so obvious as to render it as a fraudulent means of obtaining blessings.

I have deleted about 10 of these.

2. Luck/ Gambling quizzes

Quizzes that are based on luck, and not skill, and as such are not real quizzes. I tried some, and most appear to be rigged anyway as an easy way of getting blessings.

I deleted about 5 of these.

I have also reduced the amount of blessings you can get from quizzes to discourage people from abusing the Quiz system.

If this goes on, I will remove the whole system altogether. Needless to say it's disappointing to see such things happening.

I am just wondering, but why are the points reduced so low? If we get a 6 out of 10, we still lose 4 blessings. Before we would be able to gain 50 blessings (if my memory is correct, that is). Could it be possible to have 2 or 3 points per question right, so if we get a 6 out of 10, we still could get 12 blessings and gain 2 blessings from the quizzes?

yeah, I was thinking that, but I think it would be easier for a change to 2 or 3 rather than a huge step to 5. I think it could also stop the quiz abuse stuff for going on if it was 2 or 3 blessings per question right rather than 5...

Hi Erwin and everyone

I have been having such a lot of fun putting together quizzes for people to try out, and I have to admit that it's very satisfying when I see that my quizzes are taken by numbers of you out there. It saddens me that the quiz section stands in danger of being cut because of abuse by a few people. If a few of the moderators were willing to put aside time to go through the quizzes before they are posted, this would eliminate the false ones and the writers of those could be warned appropriately. I know that's a big ask, though, and may not be possible.

With regard to the reduction in blessings which you can win, I fear that people may not want to take the quizzes so much now, and one of the main reasons I enjoyed putting quizzes together is because it enabled me to bless many, many people abundantly, so they could enjoy some of the things blessings can buy, or alternatively, so they could pass blessings on to others more easily. So I would agree with others who would like to see the amount you can win increased a little, if possible.

That's my two cents worth, and please know, Erwin, that I appreciate very much all that you do in this place. I am especially thrilled with the speed at which pages load now! That's awesome! I bless the day I typed in 'praise and worship forums' and Google led me straight to CF! :)

This lower limit makes MUCH more sense! Given that there was previously no way to earn blessings rather than to subscribe or post a ton, it seemed like a HUGE change in the economy to give out hundreds for each quiz! I actually really like the numbers as they stand, but to encourage more quiz taking, I suggest that quizzes all be standardized to a cost equal to half the number of questions. That way, the 50% rule is enforced in spirit, and shorter quizzes retain their desirability.

I'd be against even a 2pt per question change simply because I think it would be a big mistake to go back to a system where quiz taking could be viewed as a 'job.' The point of taking quizzes should be fun, and not to gain blessings as it started out. The higher you go, the more the incentive to write easy quizzes simply so that people can gain more blessings. This way, everybody can afford the quizzes, but only those that WANT to take them will participate.

of COURSE I like an easy way to earn hundreds of blessings, but that's really not what the blessing system is designed for! If they become too easy to get, then people will stop supporting the site, and gifts will also become meaningless. I think it's important to retain the spirit of the BLESSINGS when adding ways to recieve them. Small rare prizes will keep the blessings much more lucrative than if they become very common!

This seems reasonable; reduce the blessings so that people don't abuse it. But I still would appreciate it if a few quizzes (added as slowly as needed, as time allows) could be approved by moderators as "good quizzes," and that those quizzes could be worth more blessings. Not only so that we could get more blessings by doing those quizzes, but also because they would be integrity-checked, to make sure that they were good quizzes, with all correct answers, etc.

I think that's a good idea.

Right lets see...I've just done a quiz. It had 10 questions and I got 5 right. So I've spent 10 blessings doing the quiz and only got 5 back for knowing the right answers. Might as well get rid of the quizzes with 10 questions if this is going to be the case because, unless you ace it, you're always going to be worse off for your effort.

I think the cost of ten blessings per play is fine but the blessings you get for each correct answer should be increased otherwise the quizzes with lower numbers of questions are pointless unless you get every one right...and even then you've gained nothing for trying. I think it needs to be at least 2 blessings per right answer so that those taking part are rewarded for there right answers.

From the other Quiz announcement:

The quizzes were never meant to be a way to earn blessings. Blessings are given out only as a means to balance out the 10 blessings you use to play one. If you're good, and get all questions correct, you may even be in front. If you play a quiz with 20 questions, and get all 20 correct, you will get 40 blessings back. Quizzes are meant to be similar to the arcade games - something that is fun. It's not meant to be a blessings giveaway. You don't get blessings with arcade games - quizzes are the same

Even so, for something as simple as taking a quiz, it shouldn't be so likely that you'll end up losing blessings. I mean, at least arcade games can be played for a fairly long time. And they're something I'm willing to "pay" for. But taking a quiz? It's fine if you don't want people to gain a huge amount of blessings from this, but it should be relatively easy to at least break even. If someone makes a difficult quiz, people shouldn't be discouraged from taking it because they know that they're going to end up losing the blessings the use to take it, even if they pass by a few questions. Perhaps quizzes should be seperate from the CF economy...no blessings to take them, none received, no matter how well you do. People would still make and take just as many quizzes, but there would be no problem with abuse. Quizzes don't strike me as something worth using blessings I could be using at the arcade ;)
