  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

i took a classes for the past 2 years on quilt making and since then family members and friends have asked me to make some for them. i was wondering if anyone knows how i can sell quilts outside of the family and friends and referrals from them? another thing is how much do you charge for a homemade quilt? i really don't know what to say when they ask me. my aunt showed me an article about making quilts and for a quilt made of the person's own t-shirts a company was charging $300-$400. what would you charge for different sizes? i need to make some extra money for Christmas and i'm already getting a couple orders but i need more and i need to know how much to charge. thanks and sorry this is so long.

You can have a free site on line to show and sell your quilt's, also you can run an ad in your local newspaper and for surrounding area's. Take into consideration all cost, supplies, material's, and also your time, and if you'll be machine stitching or hand quilting. Some quilt's take longer then other's and you also can't work on many quilt's at a time, unless you ask family and friend's for help.

Other quilter's will add more here, I haven't sold any quilt's yet, I just make them for myself and my children.

generally speaking the amount charged is about 2.5 times your cost for supplies if machine pieced and quilted. if they are hand quilted then it would be about 3.5 times the cost of supplies.

eg. most baby quilts would run at least $75 to make and quilt a simple quilt, up to $250 for an applique quilt with hand quilting.

Queen sized quilts should be about 850-900, and king sized at about $1,200. you will find that most professional long arm quilters charge about $250 to $500 for quilting large or king sized tops with pantogram designs, and more for special designs.

I am by no means an authority on the subject - but I did work for a good while in a quilt shop . Folks brought their top & bottom to us and selected the batting from our supply. We quilted with a professional quilting machine. It really depends on the size of the quilt, the design, and the thickness, plus what type of finish you will do on the edges - will it just be a bias hem or will you do some fancy edging? I think our lowest price for a twin quilt -was $25 plus cost of supplies we furnished. The bigger, thicker, & more detailed the design & finish, the more costly. Some thick ones ran $200 & $300. That did not include the $25 a yard fabric & bottom that the person chose for their quilt (sometimes we were making custom made spreads, pillows, etc.)
NOW, if you are doing the piecing for the top, supplying the batting, bottom fabric, and quilting by hand - you are in another league altogether . If you hand quilt and you have wonderful small even stitches you can fetch a very nice price. Another way to sell is going to every craft show you can afford to rent a booth at. Even if you sell only one or so - you have given yourself a great advertisment - have plenty of business cards on hand to give to everyone who stops by your booth. If you live way down south in Alabama I would love to connect with you to finish a quilt I started 25 years ago. I have looked for someone who does quality work whether by machine or hand. It is a very special top & I want it done by someone who does really nice work & I am willing to pay for their services - as I know the work involved & I know good work when I see it. Good luck with you talent.
