• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Quiet Time- A time of no debate on the Sabbath so 'mod's' can rest.

they may not have even been referring to you, they might have been referring to someone where they are looking over their shoulder, or any number of things... why take the comment personally?

I don't mind Free posting comments. I've talked with him at length before and he's a VERY nice person.

I do have a problem with him saying we aren't uplifting Christ when Christ Himself told us to obey the commandments.

He's ex-Adventist so he knows exactly how we feel about Sabbath, and he's made it abundantly clear that he doesn't agree already...to the point of ignoring any forum rules we have set up.

I just don't get it.

The temporary rules say a non-Adventist cannot debate here, yes.
who was debating? sheesh... why this fixation on debating? Do you all know how to discuss, disagree without being disagreeable and making it personal?

I have no idea who the person is, and to me it makes no difference... I will talk to him and if we disagree, then we move to another topic....

this debate thing is mind-boggling... and the narrow definition applied is unrealistic IMO....

Christ told us alot more than that, why is it that we only focus on the "keeping the commandments."

I think its the exclusionary principle at work again....

Stormy, I do know the person, and I also know he's been told several times not to debate here, but he does it anyway.

You don't find anything about his comment as demeaning to people that keep the Sabbath commandment?

Please understand he does not keep it at all and doesn't think others should either. Because of that very fact, anything he says about Sabbath in an ADVENTIST forum is going to be in conflict with our beliefs.

He's been answered several times as to why we feel we should keep that commandment, but our answers are not good enough for him apparently.

No I don't find his comment demeaning.... nor do I take what he said personally... likewise God did not ask me to defend him or the commandments. So its not hard for me to talk to a brother or a sister who disagrees with keeping the commandments. Just because we don't agree doesn't mean that they cannot ask me questions... or that I cannot answer them...

We need to learn that pre-emptive strikes against we perceive as the enemy are not the way to go. If we don't know how to deal with a particular individual it is best to leave that person alone. Either someone who can deal with them will step up or they will leave on their own. As long as the individual can get a reaction they will return to the well over and over and over again.

I would still like to know who he was referring to as vultures.

Vultures tear flesh and circle around dead things, so I'm interested to know what human beings he has decided to compare them to.
you mean like I was wondering who MVA was referring to when he quoted the text about casting one's pearls before swine and dogs? When I asked him who was who... did we get an answer to that inquiry?

I can't speak on behalf of MVA, you'll have to ask him, perhaps in PM?
why ask privately when he posted the text publicly? He must have had someone in mind... having said that, perhaps you can PM the person who used the term vultures and ask him who he was referring to?
