• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How do I get rid of Quicktime? I downloaded it last year, but I never really liked it. I tried to get rid of it via the "remove program" route on my Control Panel (Windows 98SE), but it won't go completely away. All my jpg files get turned into quicktime picture files.

How do I get this thing out?

You uninstalled quicktime but your JPGs still try to open with quick time?
If this is the case then you:
right click a JPG and select properties then click the 'Change...' button and select a the program that you want your JPG s to be opened with. (I'm am using windows 2000 pro so it might be different.)

/me wouldn't just delete files with "QuickTime" in the file name especially if they are Dynamic libraries (with DLL extension). DLL have to be registered in the registry. So if you delete a DLL then I think you will need to edit the system registry. Also some other programs like MS IE require QuickTime plugins in order to use some web features.

you could just delete the files associated with the program but if any of your other media players where sharing the files they would not work properly, I would reinstall quicktime, then unistall it through add/remove programs. If you had an earlier version of quicktime they where problems with the unistall feature but by downloading the newest version you should correct those problems.

You have to change the file association for your media files as well when you get rid of quicktime.

To do that, go to you control panel, click the multi media icon, and for each tab choose your device and click "apply."

Quicktime sure is a pain.

I did that today. When I hit "remove" it said something about other programs not running right if I uninstalled everything, so I chose "uninstall" instead of "uninstall everything". Should I have hit "everything"?

All you have to do and should do, is find a .jpg file, right click on it, click open with, choose program, then select whatever paint shop program you want, and check always use this program.

I'll try that next chance I get.

But....how in the world can I get Quicktime completely out of my comupter without messing something else up?

When installing Quicktime, you have to be careful to not give it permission to take over any files usually driven by microsoft programs. Just let it open Quicktime files. Then there is no problem with uninstalling it. Personally, I like the program better for media that I do Windows, but I still don't let it run my Windows files.
Again, the JV16 Powertools registry cleaner is good for getting rid of unwanted junk registry entry files, but you have to be careful and sorta know what your doing when running it. It's a free download.

Go to Start > Run

Type in "regedit" and hit ok

Press Ctrl + F.

Type in quicktime. Press ok

everytime it finds it... Delete it.

Press "F3" to find the next instance.

Keep doing that until it's done searching.

Go double click on a .JPG It should be back to Windows default. If it isn't, right click on it and select "Open With".

Quicktime is absolute junk, and second on the list of garbage installs next to Real Player. :p

Uninstall everything, my guess is, would also delete DLL files. Might as well leave them...
