Ok, I have a quick complaint. I'll start it off by saying that I really do love the school and like (most) everything about it. But there are a few things I would like to change (and will try to this year) and that bug me, and the other students in our flight program.
For the last three years they have had to cap enrollment to the college for the first time in the universities history. They keep adding on to other buildings and getting brand new ones for the other departments and here our flight department sits with an old double-wide trailer out by the airport. They are about two and a half miles from campus, so we get terrible tech/maintenance support. Every winter we have to deal with poor seals around the doors/windows and leaking roofs. My fellow flight students will pay anywhere from $70,000-85,000 in our four year degree in addition to tuition.
We get one lousy credit for our flight labs that require a MINIMUM of 16 hours of work each week and many of our 4 day classes are only 3 credits. Several of those classes are actually under the supervision of the FAA and require a modified grade scale with our MINIMUM passing grades being 80% instead of 60.
Parking is limited and very tight and there are several LARGE parking lots which do not allow overnight parking and for us FLIGHT STUDENTS, who have to drive back and forth to campus once, twice, sometimes three or four times A DAY have to fight for parking spots. I've had to miss several classes because I drove around for 45 minutes searching for ONE spot... and then get a ticket for it. I accumulated well over $100 in parking tickets because of that stupid mess. No other major in the school has to drive off campus for their classes. We've asked for special parking spots, or parking passes but keep getting turned away and saying it's "unfare to the other students".
Late last year a bunch of students (and I) got a club organized called the Flight Tech. Students Union to actually give ourselves some political play on this campus and change some of these stupid problems.
Our program (along with the teacher education program) is what puts this college on the map! We are the only four year university in the northwest that offeres a professional pilot program and is one of the best in the nation. Our pilots include US Navy Blue Angel pilots, US Air Force Thunderbird pilots, A-10 pilots, F-117 pilots, Tomcat pilots, C-17 pilots, not to mention the thousands that have gone on to all major airlines.
It would be nice if we could get a few nice things from the university since we do work so hard, and at least due to the fact that we pay 3-4 times what other "normal" students have to pay.
OK, my rant is over.
