  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So how effective do you think this will be for a lapsed Catholic or a lukewarm one?

I think it will be eye-opening, faith affirming, and fire-starting. Really there are no words to tell you how this movie has made me feel. Just go see it and you'll understand. I will never pray Angus Dei, QuiTollis peccata mundi, miserere nobis the same way again, and the sorrowful mysteries are forever changed in my eyes.

I saw it as well. i believe that if you want to view the crucifixtion in a whole new way, it will really push you to that point. i never even thought about it before and now i can't stop singing that song:
"Crucified, laid behind the stone. you lived to die, rejected and alone. like a rose trampled on the ground. you took the fall and thought of me above all."
Great song and great movie. yes it was violent but that is just how it was in that day and age and still can be. it is everywhere but i do not believe it was meant to be anti-semetic. i feel no hatred towards the jewish religion or people.

The only place I have heard that song is at church with Matt Mahar. i do know that I love that song so much. I don't think it is on any of his cd's so don't try there. but here are some more lyrics.
"Above all powers, above all kings above all nations and all creative things. above weath and treasures of the earth. there's no way to measure what your worth...Chorus"
That is all I can think of I hope you figure it out though.

Michael W. Smith ~ Above All ~ Worship(album)
Above all powers
Above all things
Above all nature and all created things
Above all wisdom and all the ways of man
You were here before the world began

Above all kingdoms
Above all thrones
Above all wonders the world has ever known
Above all wealth and treasures of the earth
There's no way to measure what You're worth

Crucified
Laid behind the stone
You lived to die
Rejected and alone
Like a rose trampled on the ground
You took the fall
And thought of me
Above all

Great movie, and great song. I agree.

I have a question for you guys from the other Passion thread on this site. Does anyone know what the demonic baby that Satan carries during the flogging scene represents???

no prob! I Love that song!

and for an answer to the question I asked earlier, and for anyone who was wondering the same thing. Heres what one person on the other site explained to us.

Everyone has been asking about that baby that looked old who was also CLOTHED in animal-skin/fur. That scene was very important... especially for those who want to see the film put in context with the reason behind why Christ sacrificed Himself for us. The child's aging represented the result of sin... death. The childs animal-skin clothing represented the first sacrifice God made, which was of an animal to clothe adam and eve as a result of their sin (found in Genesis 3:21.) Satan was portrayed in this scene as uncovering the representation of fallen man, (the baby needing clothing and showing the effects of aging--both the result of sin), to show Christ his own (satan's) claim to victory--that man failed. Too bad for Him, Christ wins.

there u go. ttyl!!

sorry cholcolate yes i do love that song and I really didn't think about that part in the movie. it didn't even occur to me. but i did have a hard time with all of the demon children. i never like to think of children not having their innocence. I have always viewed them as preciouse and that scene really got to me emotionally. i know i am a dork.

The children, I don't think were really children ...
I thought it was an interesting type of imagery. Satan mocks what is GODLY. The female Satan holding the "whip-marked" baby, was a clear mockery of the beautiful "Madonna and Child" images we see in icons. What's more, as the Virgin Mary moved her way through the crowds, the female Satan mirrored her movements through the other side (Christ's LEFT side; Mary was on His right).
