  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

NJA,

has there ever been a time, when someone was speaking and it was not controllable, at any of your meetings? Or if not in meetings have you ever experienced that?

No, God says he doesn't behave like that (1 Cor. 14:32), though we did have an instance of someone insisting on disrupting the meeting, but even that was controlable by 2 large brothers who assisted his exit!

Interesting, if i recall correctly, i remember praying for healing for this man one time, when i went there with my wife, i layed hands on him and starting praying in english, then all the sudden i screamed really loud, and it was like i was in a battle, i begin speaking to the enemy in english after screaming, but when i screamed, i screamed so loud, blood came out of my mouth and nose, then after speaking in english, i was very tired, and then i begin to sing in tongues, and that is when i first experience singing in tongues. There have been other occasions where i spoke in tongues uncontrollably, for instance when i as praying for this man, i did not want to scream or have blood go out of my mouth and nose, but thats what happened. It was controllable in the fact that i went to his house and pray for him, but uncontrollable with how loud it was and unexpecting it was.

He makes some correct points though he's wrong on salvation, you are not “born again when you accept Christ as Lord”.
The born again experience is receiving Holy Spirit with the new prayer language, speaking in tongues. (just like a baby cries when it is born)
"The wind blows (Greek: the Spirit breathes) where it wills, and you hear the sound thereof, but cannot tell whence it comes,
and whither it goes: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. " (Jesus in John 3:8)

In Acts 11:14-15 the apostles refer to Pentecost as "the beginning", and Acts 10 as the gentiles receiving salvation, compare Titus 3:5-6.

The new tongue signifies the new heart / new creature.

The Samarians believed in Jesus as Lord but the apostles knew they had not actually received the Holy Spirit yet
(Acts 8:12-16, see also 19:5 - re-baptised believers in Jesus who Paul knew hadn't received the Spirit, which is why he prayed for them).

Acts 10 etc show how they knew precisely when people received the Holy Spirit, not just whether or not they “had” the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 12 -14 what was the problem Paul was addressing?
- They were all speaking in tongues in meetings, Paul says no! not all, just 2 or 3, each followed by interpretation

1 Corinthians 14:5 is saying I want you all to use the ability (because it edifies them individually), but obviously in the personal context.

The need for praying in tongues ("in the Spirit"):
"the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered" (by us, but He has the words) Romans 8:26 etc.
