  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Mattew 7:22
"A great number will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord, were we not prophets in your name, and did we not by your name send out evil spirits, and by your name do works of power?
And then will I say to them, I never had knowledge of you: go from me, you workers of evil."

I m meeting some christians as above, and i m wondering , R they still christians?

because Later the lord teaches:
"Everyone, then, to whom my words come and who does them, will be like a wise man who made his house on a rock;"
"And everyone to whom my words come and who does them not, will be like a foolish man who made his house on sand;""And the rain came down and there was a rush of waters and the winds were driving against that house; and it came down and great was its fall."

So it seems they no longer r christians?

Reading the part of the scripture listed above would say to me that they never were Christians.

It says I never had knowledge of you, not that I knew you, but I don't now.

If you read the verses before this particular passage you will get the context on what He is stating starting at verse 15:
Matt 7:15-20 said:
15 "Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.
16 By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?
17 Likewise every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.
18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.
19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire.
20 Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.
Then after this He states:
Matt 7:21-23 said:
21 "Not everyone who says to me, `Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me on that day, `Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?'
23 Then I will tell them plainly, `I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

The context is the false prophets and teachers. These are the ones through whom Satan will be showing signs and wonders in order to deceive the elect (Matt 24:24). Those are the ones that the Lord will say "I never knew you, away from me you workers of iniquity."

Another good one that goes with this is: "Many are called, but few are chosen".

This flies in the face of those ministers of error who say once saved always saved (as long as you tithe of course!).

There is a lot of wrong teaching going on out there and it's time we recognize that if you follow wrong teaching you will not win the prize.

Please take particular note of the quote in the other post that says: "you will know them by their actions".

I tell you. Some of the things I read in these posts are really wrong. Someone needs to stand up for Jesus and say, "Where is it you find that in scripture".

Fortunately, I read a lot of posts who don't give opinions, but quote scripture (as the posts above) to correct and even then the misguided still argue.

Remember, and I need to myself also, it's not what goes into you that makes you unclean; it's what comes out of your mouth (actions) that shows if you are a follower or not. Anyone can call themselves a Christian, but not all are going to be chosen to be saved by Jesus.

It's time all Christians start focusing on just what it takes to be among the chosen rather than lost with the called.

Thanks, i think this verse really r telling us how to discern the false teachers, to see their fruits, not just see how they talk beautiful things or act some miracles.

but I do not understand, why it is wrong that, once saved always saved?
I think once a person received Jesus in his heart, he will be in God forever.
and those false teachers actually never received Jesus in heart. the false teachers just pretended they received Jesus.

Is that so?

and i think i still need to be very careful to judge if they r false christians or not. it is very hard, but so important nowadays.

Discernment can sometimes be very hard, but the Holy Spirit is great in helping us with this as long as we listen and let Him do the leading.

I agree with once saved always saved, and the fact that these false teachers/preachers, etc. were never saved so they couldn't lose something they never had.

This may help:

(1) Humility is always in season. Being cocky about your salvation is not the same thing as being grateful for the offer, the downpayment, the promise, and the urgent warning to REMAIN in Him.

(2) False Prophets and Teachers known by their fruits: According to John's Gospel, 'God does not give the Holy Spirit by Measure' (Jn 3:34). Jesus had no trouble 'unwithering' an atrophied arm in plain view of a crowd, or granting sight to someone actually born blind. Have you ever seen a TV preacher restore an amputated leg? And you probably *won't* see that very often either. Yet Peter and Paul, when walking in the Spirit were honoured by God in having people healed, just by their shadow falling upon those they passed.

Truly does the Word of God say that a righteous man is one in a thousand.

Even the righteousness of Daniel and Enoch would scarcely save their own skin according to Jesus.

I believe in miracles. But I also understand that they are rare, and reserved for the glory of Jesus Christ, and those who truly follow Him.

I wish I could just wave my hand and heal people myself, but that glory is for Jesus alone.

For the rest of us, the power and miracles of healing come through prayer and fasting, if only to keep us humble, than for any other reason.

Jesus doesn't need to hog the glory, but we simply can't handle it.

Just some thoughts

is suppose to be workers of iniquity

John 15:5 can't do good work without God

1 cor 3:12 describes good works as hay wood and stubble or silver, gold and precious stones

2 cor 11:13-15.... satans works judged by their good works

believers are judged by Christ work

Not just to discern false teachers, but a warning that others can see our "fruit" as well to discern if we are being false teachers.

Yup. When Jesus replied that he never knew them (v.23), he's saying that they never had a relationship with Jesus in the first place--they weren't Christians. Some just play the part, and many even believe they are Christians because they "behave" like Christians, but they never had a real relationship with Christ (given over their hearts and lives to Christ).

and i think i still need to be very careful to judge if they r false christians or not. it is very hard, but so important nowadays.
Yes, ultimately, God is the only one who really knows what is in everyone's hearts. I think the point here is not so much for us to try to judge who is or isn't a Christian, but just that we should not follow others blindly--that their actions speak louder than words of their real character. And that we should be careful of not doing the same thing.
