  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Mattew 7:22
"A great number will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord, were we not prophets in your name, and did we not by your name send out evil spirits, and by your name do works of power?
And then will I say to them, I never had knowledge of you: go from me, you workers of evil."

I m meeting some christians as above, and i m wondering , R they still christians?

because Later the lord teaches:
"Everyone, then, to whom my words come and who does them, will be like a wise man who made his house on a rock;"
"And everyone to whom my words come and who does them not, will be like a foolish man who made his house on sand;""And the rain came down and there was a rush of waters and the winds were driving against that house; and it came down and great was its fall."

So it seems they no longer r christians?

What is it exactly that makes you think they ever were? Just because some call themselves Christians don't make it so--that's why we are told there will be fruit..(See if the Vine is alive, it will produce fruit)...

Here is a sample of John's preaching to the crowds that came for baptism: "You brood of snakes! Who warned you to flee God's coming judgment? Prove by the way you live that you have really turned from your sins and turned to God.

Dont just say, 'We are safe- we're the descendants of Abraham.' That proves nothing. God can change these stones here into children of Abraham. Even now the ax of God's judgment is poised, ready to sever your roots. Yes, every tree that does not produce good fruit will be chopped down and thrown into the fire." Luke 3:7-9

There is a place in scriptures that talk about when people will claim to be jews, and they really arnt.

And what of those who feel circumsions will save them? The Lord says, "A time is coming when I will punish all those who are circumcised in body but not in spirit- the egyptians, edomites, ammonites, moabites, the people who live in distant places, and yes, even the people of Judah. Like all these pagan nations, the people of Israel also have uncircumcised hearts." Jeremiah 9:25-26

What seperated the nonbelieving jew from those who believed? All the jewish people were set apart by God to be a nation. They were chosen. And God performed signs and wonders among all his children.

Yet John says, Prove by the way you live that you have really turned from your sins and turned to God. (and then making a point he says, God can turn these stones into sons of Abraham).

So then, as far as christians are concerned, it would be the same decernment.

When Simon saw that the Holy Spirit was given when the apostles placed their hands upon peoples heads, he offered money to buy this power. Let me have this power too, he exclaimed, so that when I lay my hands on people, they will recieve the Holy Spirit!

But Peter replied, May your money perish with you for thinking God's gift can be bought! You can have no part in this, for your heart is not right before God. Turn from your wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps he will forgive your evil thoughts, for I can see that you are full of bitterness and held captive by sin. Acts 8:18-23

We are also told that in the end, this spirit of the antichrist would make possible miracles to decieve even "if possible" the very elect.

I dont know about you, but I have seen this in today's society.

Fake speaking in tongues, fake healings (yet there are people who will be healed thru one of these services- not because of the imposter though, it is because of that persons faith in God- God is honoring the person of faith), and fake prophecies.

The best way to decern these things is thru the Word of God. (God's Word is the judge).

God Bless

Matthew 7:22 does not refer to people who were once saved and then lost it. It refers to those who claim to be Christians and doing the work of God when they are not. This is why Jesus say's "I never had knowledge of you". The people he is talking about were never saved in the first place.

There are those who truely prophecy, cast out demons, and do Good works in the name of God. There are others who either fake it or do it for their own glory (as in the works). Only those who are of God will be known by God and be like the wise man.

Yep Matthew 7:22 are talking about those people who sound religious, and there are many of them in the fold of the Body of Christ today. HE exposes them because they have no fellowship with HIM at all.

As we are in the latter days, then on the day of judgement only our relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ, our acceptance of Him through salvation, and our obedience to HIM will matter.

All those so-called Christians who are even good people and they make all the oohs and aahs in the right place, and say all those relgious things, and believe they are saved, and automatically have eternal life. Well they will be in for a rude awakening when that time comes.

Our faith in our Lord Jesus Christ is the reality check, and is what will count at the day of judgement. HE will settle the accounts, by judging sin and rewarding faith.

it is also very hard to have deep relationships with these kind of people (the ones calling themselves christians but have bad fruits and disobedient to Jesus). when you even try to say anything, I've heard "don't judge", you can judge fruit though, Jesus says we can do that. It isn't loving to go along pretending with those people, pretend they are godly when they aren't, it isn't loving.

MY DEAR BROTHER,

Be careful in attempting to judge who is a Christian and who is not. God alone knows the hearts of men, and He alone can make that call. Your judging whether another is "REALLY" a Christian can get you into hot water with God very quickly. Don't go there! As Paul writes, "WHO ARE YOU TO JUDGE ANOTHER'S SERVANT? TO HIS OWN MASTER HE STANDS OR FALLS."(Romans 14:4)

IN CHRIST,
ephraim

Mattew 7 15"By their fruits you will get knowledge of them. Do men get grapes from thorns or figs from thistles?"
"It is not possible for a good tree to give bad fruit, and a bad tree will not give good fruit."

someone reminds me to read the above verses , and i realize Jesus is telling us how to discern those false teachers.

but another one is telling me that this also means, it is wrong that , once saved always saved? but i think once a person really received Jesus, he will be saved and forever in Jesus.?

and those false teachers or prophets r actually from satan, they never received Jesus, they just pretended they were. but it is very hard to discern and need to be very careful, but it is so important nowadays in our church and life to make clear.

yeah, we just need to be careful, and remember people do make mistakes too, if they repent and are truly loving, that is great. its the ones who don't repent and get mean and nasty, that's some fruit to consider. remember Matthew 18:15 verses too, Jesus says :"If your brother sins, go and show him his fault in private; if he listens to you, you have won your brother. But if he does not listen to you..."

and be merciful and do all in love, letting love of God, Jesus, and Truth be first

Some people interpret this scripture to mean that people shouldn't prophesy, cast out demons, or perform many miracles - of course God is one doing it, they're just vessels. Anyway, that's taking one scripture and ignoring all the others that support prophesy, casting out demons, and performing miracles through Christ Jesus. such as
Mat 10:8
Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give.

...we dig deeper .

The portion of scripture about "He didn't know them," it's because of their hearts, they didn't love the Lord nor their fellow man.

Read this post recently, a man had a near-death experience and he had always passed out gospel tracts. But that was the first thing the Lord showed him that He disproved because the man had been doing out of pride.
That's the way it is with us today. We can work but unless our hearts are devoted to Him first, then it doesn't please Him. God did use these people to prophesy, cast out demons, or perform miracles even though their hearts weren't in the right place.

The two commandments to Love the Lord and love our fellow man are reemphasized in this verse.

Mat 9:4 And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?
