  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

So I stumble upon the National Park Service website and read their explanation on the Grand Canyon, I am still not sure how the Grand Canyon was formed exactly, but they say on the website the Grand Canyon were originally formed from lava flows and these rocks were intensely metamorphosed about 1,750 million years ago. They have a naturalistic explanation for the deposits. What's the YEC answer to this?

Hi GF,

Well, one presupposition that has stood me well is that pretty much anytime man's wisdom is trying to tell us how things happened in the far distant past: It's all a guess based on knowledge that we have today and the assumption that the physics of what we see and measure and correlate today has always and in every circumstance been true. However, for one who has read and studied the Scriptures, we believers know that when it comes to God acting within this realm, all bets as to how things act or react naturally or that all things in all times and all circumstances must have always followed the 'laws' of the natural activity of things, don't apply.

Scientists are unwilling to allow this possibility and thus always get it wrong. But, that's to be expected according to all that we find in the Scriptures.

For me, the YEC answer is that we don't know how the Grand Canyon was formed. We can make all sorts of guesses, but to know with any certainty that one guess is more true than another is a study in futility. What I do know is that it's there and however it came to be, it has happened in the last 6,000 years or so. Beyond that, I haven't a clue. However, neither do I need to know. I'm not so convinced or convicted that God put us here to think to imagine that we can figure everything out as the how and why of the creation.

As Solomon wrote: It's all a chasing after the wind.

God bless you.
In Christ, Ted

There are over 800 references from IRC here.

Here is one of them:

Here are over 800 references from ICR:
The magnificent Grand Canyon is filled with prime evidence—fossils, bent strata, sharp contacts, and flat gaps—that its gargantuan rock layers resulted from tremendous catastrophe, not deep time.
