I have known people who take peoples' jaws in their hand and work the jaws so whatever the person utters comes out mangled in an attempt to physically force the person to speak in tongues.

I have never seen that happen in all of the 50 years I have been associated with the Pentecostal/Charismatic movement in New Zealand. If that was done here, the people doing it would be well and truly disciplined and told very firmly by the leadership cease and desist from the practice.

Yes. It is the short-cut way of getting a demonic or fleshly counterfeit. When people resort to ridiculous practices like that, demons are always around to use the situation to their advantage. We are to be sober and vigilant as Peter said, because the devil goes around like a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. He would be quick to devour tongues seekers submitting to these inappropriate practices.

Except in the congregations in the US where that happened, it was usually the pastor doing it.

That pastor should be fired. I am the senior elder in my church and if I discovered anyone doing anything like that they would feel the very sharp edge of my tongue for sure!!!! And I wouldn't be speaking in tongues to them! I would be using some of the choice words Martin Luther would have used, and they would not be pleasant at all!

When all things are done 'decently and in order,' according to the Word of God. The baptism in the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Spirit are so beneficial to the Church and its ministry.
