  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Tomorrow I get my new apartment and am going to finally have some space to put up an altar.

That got me thinking about something my SF was talking about, prayer chains. He mentioned how he had a great many prayers and said only part of them each night so that his list took an entire week to read.

So my question are how does one go about setting up a prayer list, what types of prayers would be put in them, and can anyone give an example?

Also, I am looking for a prayer. Over the past few months, two people have caused a great deal of problems and harm to me. I'm not sure how to say exactly but I am looking for a prayer that would help them.

Well, such a list would obviously include the Trisagion and normal daily prayers. Other than that, with the help of your SF, you'd probably pick and choose the ones you need, and/or like.

The simplest prayers for them, until you find something else, if this isn't enough, would be a variation on the Jesus Prayer. Instead of saying, "...on me, a sinner." say, "...on (insert name here)."

I visited several Orthodox homes, and the best answer to the prayer list was to use a bulletin board. First they covered it with some nice wrapping paper, and then they posted all the holy cards they receive when members die, and finally, they neatly post messages for prayers for the living.

I had a list in my rolodex and then I made another one on my computer.

Hope this helps.

Lovingly in Christ our God,
Elizabeth
