  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just keep the scraping to once a month!

No, sorry I can't bend my pride to allow me to scrape to anyone at any time. :p

The Methodist church decor (usually) is very "homey" -- carpeted, nice windows, rec rooms that house activities and Bible studies... you just feel like you're in somebody's house!

I don't know about that. The church my parents attend is a little stuffy in the summer and a lot drafty in the winter. It "feels" like a church not somebody's home. The building is over 100 years old though.

Bowing is acceptable, but scraping could cause serious facial damage, and I wouldn't want to see that. Saluting? That would be kinda cool. Maybe you could teach my kids how to do that ;).

I could teach them. Would you object to me using a whistle and making them do push-ups for disobedience? ;) :p

Well, I must say, this church has done an excellent job of making me feel welcome.

Of all the churches I have visited on my "journey", they have really been the most welcoming. Though my decision will not soley be based on this, it does help. I had a member stop by the house and bring a homemade pie!!! YUM!

And the minister sent me a handwritten letter that I got in the mail today. He gave his home number and offered to sit down with me at anytime, and the church has about 400 members. I appreciate those efforts.

I will visit the church a few more times. If I see they actually teach from the Bible a bit more in future sermons I could certainly see me making it a home.

I am visiting a Baptist church this coming Sunday as I promised a good friend I would. He is the youth minister there. Then I will begin narrowing my selection a bit.

Anyhow, you guys rock (at least when you stay on topic ;) )

More info would be great, you can never get too much insight when making these type of decisions.

One key difference between baptist and methodist doctrine is on the subject of baptism. Not sure how important that is to you but you will find it is a large difference on that issue.
