Questions about Messianic Judaism...

I have been a Christian for many years. Recently an uncle of mine, who preaches and teaches Messianic Judaism in his church, has ask me to join his fellowship when I return to Missouri. I have been trying to learn all that I can about this and would like to talk to others who follow Messianic Judaism, in order to get more than one view. I am very interested in this but I have many questions concerning it. I want to know and understand all about it before I make my decision.

I do not understand all of the different types of Judaism. Why are there so many and what is their differences?

Today, while reading an article sent by a Nazarene Judaism follower I came across this...

Rev 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Note that the "remnant" have two characteristics:

<X-TAB> </X-TAB>1. They "keep the commandments of Eloah" (they are Torah Observant).
<X-TAB> </X-TAB>
<X-TAB> </X-TAB>2. They "have the testimony of Yeshua" (they are believers in Yeshua as Messiah).

I understand the 2nd statement, but in the first one...What does Torah Observant mean?

Also, does anyone know a site where I can read a Jewish Bible on-line? I have found a couple, but they did not include the New Testament.

As you can see, I am confused. Any help would be appreciated!

Hello! Nice to have you here. Please check out this website to learn all you want about Judiasm: www.jewfaq.org. It a wonderful beginners site for those that want to learn about Judiasm.

Torah observant means that one follows the laws in the Old Testament. Meaning one keeps kosher, celebrates the feasts in Lev. 23, and Ten Commandments, and a bevy of other laws that God gave his people.

And yes, You can read a Jewish Bible online Here: www.hareidi.org/bible/index.html This bible is from the Jewish Publication Society. It's a very good bible..but it's not exactly like the KJV version bible..which I hope I am not to forward in presuming that you most likely read or one similar to that.. But the JPS is easy to read..I think you will like it.

Please check this site if you would like to know what Messianics believe www.umjc.org and www.mjaa.org. These are VERY reliable sources online to learn about Messianic Judiasm.

This should get you started.. There is also a thread called Pray4Isrel here: http://www.christianforums.com/threads/35908.html

Please take a look at it..it has some questions and answers on it I think you may find useful.

Take care and enjoy the info that I provided. Hope this gets you started!!

Missy, w/o going into those websites just yet.......does the jewish bible that u are referring to in that site have the NT? I was under the impression that jewish bibles did not contain the NT because they do not believe Jesus is the messiah? Am I off on this?

No, and I answered his question correctly. He asked for a JEWISH Bible. A Jewish Bible would be the Tanach only. Which I referred him too.. the JPS is the Tanach. If he would have asked for a Messianic Jewish Bible I would have referred him to The Complete Jewish Bible by David Stern or The Orthodox Jewish Brit Chadasha as Talmid stated that do contain New Testaments.

But next time just check out the sites..

Wow, thanks Missy,
Those sites really had some interesting content. I have marked them so I can read more indepth later. If I have any more questions...I'll be back...lol

Thanks again!

I am glad you found them interesting. Please do look in depth at them. It's a great start for beginners like yourself. And I will be glad to answer your questions if I can..if not, I am sure there are other Messianics here that can.

Bless you,

Missy
