My son left wed., Feb. 15th to go to Lackland, Tx for his basic training. He was scheduled to go on March 21st but his recruiter called on Valentines Day at noon and said get up here NOW. Here is Nashville and we live in Florence, Al so I had him at the hotel by 5:30 Feb 14th and got to see him get sworn in on the 15th. He was the only one going to the air force since he must have been taking someone's place that wasn't able to go. Anyway they took him to the airport at 1:00 and his plane didn't leave till 8:00 so we hung out at the airport. It was a cool day.

My question is when will I find out details about graduation and when will I get his call with the address and is that the only way to get the address--wait till he calls. I've already got some letters ready for he said he wanted lots. Anyone who has gone thru this themself or has a child that has I would appreciate any shared hopes, strengths or experiences.

Thanks

Lisa P

Hello Lisa.....a proud mom you must be. Congratulations on raising such a fine son.
He will contact you with his address ASAP. It takes a few days. Also you will get a flyer in the mail with the graduation time and place. I know, it's all a bit scary at the moment, but just hang in there and it will all fall into place.

Thanks so much. I am very proud of him because he has wanted to do this since he was very young, actually it was after 9-11 when he said, I want to serve my country and he was just 13 and hasn't changed his mind. He's just so young but I hear he'll sure grow up in a hurry. I think once I get that address and the graduation information I'll feel better. I just appreciate the reply so very much!

Yes, they do grow up in a hurry in the military.
I've been a military mom for almost 3 years now and my husband is retired military. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. I know this is a tough situation for moms. We all just made it through one year of Iraq.
