  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What struggle? Are you saying there's a part of you that believes the Bible? I thought you just said you didn't believe there was any evidence at all? What exactly are you struggling over?

Other skeptics struggles...What were they? I don't find the bible to be credible evidence of God's existence, But regardless of what I find credible, the bible may actually be the absolute Truth...that's the scary part...If I'm wrong in my assumptions then I'm completely and utterly screwed.

Just what I thought. You don't want to do anything yourself, you just want to sit back and have it spelled out for you. Sorry I'm not interested in that kind of a dialog.

You say that the is an undeniable Truth, you can't prove this to me. That's why I said the point is that you can't...So I do have to some how find God for myself..this is a extreme problem for me...not because I'm too lazy to search, quite the opposite...
..maybe I'm looking for the wrong God/spiritual being? Maybe I need to check other avenues of spirituality...

You can PM each other you know.

And Discarded, have you read the Bible? If so how much of it?

If there's one thing that I've found out, that the answers that are needed are all in the bible. They are very well hidden though, so I suggest you read it over and over again to find those answers. It's kinda like the movie The Matrix. The movie is so complicated that you need to watch it over and over again to understand everything. Same with the Bible.

I also have a book in mind. It's written by Josh McDowell called Evidence That Demands a Verdict. There are first and second parts to it, he also updated it recently because of new evidence that he found called The New Evidence That Demands A Verdict. Check it out: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0785243631/103-7303535-1192612?v=glance&n=283155

I've seen some really hateful Christians..some deny that Jehavohs Witnesses are Christians mainly because they don't recognize Jesus Christ as God

I've entertained many JWs on my doorstep. I've never hated any of them. And it's actually the JWs that believe they are the only true christian church. What differentiates them from christians denominations is their belief in their own authority. True christian churches hold the Bible up as their authority. JWs, OTOH, insist that they have modern prophets who's words are on the same level as scripture and have exclusive rights to interpret it. Christian denominations all strive to understand what the Bible says about God and salvation and their unity on this is remarkable. But other groups like JWs believe they have additional revelation as do mormons and other christian cults. These of course have no unity among themselves about the nature of God nor the way of salvation as, of course, they each claim to be the only true church.

The Bible is very clear there would be false teachers, so it's not surprising there are groups like this.

2Pet. 2:1 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction.

So we are to test their claims by the word of God. We are to be like the Bereans.

Acts 17:10 *Then the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea. When they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. 11 These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.

I've been wondering how do I do this. How do I just dismiss it? How can I see your God as you claim?
It's been obvious that I have some serious problems with your God, how do I remedy that?

By getting to know Him. A lot of times we think people are no good until we get to know more about them and realize we've misjudged them. From what I can see so far, you have a poor understanding of the christian God. It’s true that a cursory glance may give a bad impression, but I think that will fade the more you learn about His nature. First, God is omniscient. Can you imagine knowing every exhaustive detail about the future? That's hard to fathom. On top of that He is omnipotent. Now He not only knows every future event, He has the power create the world and events in the world in accordance with that knowledge. On top of that his is omnibenevolent (all loving) and also a perfect judge. Your thread opened up with a question about freewill and He obviously see this as an important element in human nature. When you add all this up, it’s much easier for me to trust His decisions, even when they seem harsh.

The Flood, at first glance, seems to be a horrible thing, but perhaps God saw that in the long run it reduced the total amount of suffering of mankind. Wars also seem harsh, but sometimes failing to fight is worse. Image if we never went to war with Hitler!

Rom. 11:33 Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! 34 “For who has known the mind of the LORD? Or who has become His counselor?” 35 “Or who has first given to Him And it shall be repaid to him?” 36 For of Him and through Him and to Him are all things, to whom be glory forever. Amen.

Should I just move on and find something more compatible with my beliefs? Not really sure what to do exactly.

How logical would that be? If I were merely looking for a religion that made be feel good and was compatible with my own thinking, christianity would be my last choice. Personally I would rather know the truth. Something tells me you’re the same way.

I don’t believe in free will in spiritual matters but that’s a subject I don’t know enough about to answer adequately.

oh *hugs*. How nice and honest! Better to be unsure than to be wrong.

Free will is involved in every matter. Right now, I can choose to obey His Word on a certain thing or not. It is my choice. I do take it you have salvation in mind tho? That makes it more complicated but you're welcome to write me sometime if you wanna discuss it.
