Why do most Messianic's type God as G-d on the internet? Is a practice of respect?
How nice to have one express their query in such a fashion. Not infrequently it is stated in a very conforntational form :)

It has long been the tradition of Jewish people to show great respect to the Name of G-d. In their tradition of increasing honor in the things of G-d this respect has been extended to almost all titles or forms that directly label G-d.

One form of this respect is that anywhere where the Name can be erased or altered it is not written in totality so to prevent dishonor to His Name. Therefore you will see G-d and L-rd, even Ad-ni. All are forms of respect and there is an additional reason I use these forms.

In chat rooms and message boards I often post the following as explaination:

My G-D

I leave the 'o' out of L-RD & G-D...because to many people, there are their lords and their gods...and I see many people worshipping others gods that isn't the same G-D that I worship...

that is the G-D of Avraham, the G-D of Yitshac, and the G-D of Yacov...just like the "Shema Yisra'el" reminds us there is only one G-D...

also it is because of my great awe, love, fear, respect, honor, etc. that I leave it out...

because G-D is my G-D, my King, my Parent, my Redeemer, my Friend, my Healer, and also my Lover....I hope that answers it...???

Shalom,
Henaynei

Since Jesus or Yashua is the "name above all names", how do you "respect" His Name?

By not doing what the rest of the world does, using it as a curse :(

This is as good a place as any to note that while Jesus has been used so often as a curse that it even have various dimutive forms, including jees, JC, etc,. Yeshua has not been used as a curse. Even in Israel in the places that followers of Yeshua are cursed the Name Yeshua is not used by those doing the cursing.

Jewish law prohibits the writing of G-ds name on something to be discarded, as that would be treating G-ds name like garbage. So most add the dash in, some do GD, others do G~d etc etc. But any paper or anything containing the name of G-d must not be destroyed or discarded and has to be kept out of respect for his power and wonderfull name.

As far as I know.

Shalom and G-d bless

I believe there is a kosher way of placing them in compartments to be buried, like they do with the letters to G-d that people put in the Western Wall in the Cardo of Jerusalam.

I may be entriely wrong of cource. For the most part even torn pages with G-ds name are held on to.

So a different standard is used for the Holy Name of Jesus than the one for God? There are "many" gods, but there is ONLY ONE Messiah Yeshua or Jesus Christ. Very interesting and telling too, I think.

Oy. Dad Ernie, many people also write Y'shua and Y-shua. Are you aware of that?

Can we try not to accuse people of belittling our Savior when we don't know for certain that they truly are?

It's also rather telling (to me) when I see people trying to make issues where there are none, or cast a certain light on people groups out of their own biases.

And why did you not answer my question thusly when I first asked it? I would guess because it is not a clear custom to do so.

Excuse me? I'll thank you again to keep your assumptions in check, Dad Ernie.

My brother, I didn't answer your question before because frankly I don't answer many posts, my time is extremely limited, and often posts here are far better answered by others than by me IMO. And honestly I don't recall noticing your previous post before I posted to this thread. Also, unlike some people, I am here to learn from my brethren, so I am usually rather quiet.

Now, as for me, personally, I don't feel there is anything wrong with speaking the name of YHWH, or Yeshua. I believe Elohim intended we do so, and that's my opinion. However, I try to remember to write HaShem or at least G-d/Y'shua when I post if I know others may be appreciative of me doing so. I am not aware if there is any reason anyone might be offended by Elohim so I tend to use it and HaShem a lot.

Is that a sufficient answer for you?

When we say Hashem we mean "the name". Baruch Hashem means bless the name.
This puts up a wall of reverence around the name of G-d.

Saying god bless you to someone after they snezze could be considered using the lords name in vain.

I would argue though that we dont use the true name of God in modern life so saying God is similar to saying hashem. God could reffer to a number of different things
